On-One are having a sale on all this ti' frames... this includes their planet x road frames and their 26" and 29'er linksky frames.

iirc, linksky are effectively litespeed (same builder)... so in all respects, this is a half-price titanium frame.

i'm off to count my pennies... sorely tempted, but it's down to either a new titanium xc bike or a 2002 lotus elise 135 sport to replace the tvr chim.... thoughts?|

My advice, buy the bike. Biggest regret I have is trading my Tiv for the Elise. Nice and all that but seriously lacking the sense of occasion of the Tiv. Any spare money left can go on fettling the Tiv.

Just think "Titanium!!" wink

Cheers,
Rob

Litespeed has not been Lynskey since 1999 when the family sold the company to American Bicycle Group.

Is this the same generation of Ti 456?

The damage seems to be to the older straight tube models IIRC.

It says it was a 2003 but it makes me a little concerned. Plus:

I have medium Tinbred (ebb) cracked in the same place when i phoned Brant and asked him if anything On-One warranty would cover and he said "I might as well use it as a fking coat hanger"

as On-One have the frames manufactured by other companies, could it be that the current batch of Linksky frames are different from these older ti' Inbred frames?

as for Brants reaction to the cracked frame... well i guess there is more to that conversation than meets the eye... i think any frame can be broken with the right amount of punishment.

As I understand it, post Ti Inbred, Brant & On-one have parted company...

I do not know whether or not the Ti Inbreds were made by Lynskey. All I do know is I've seen a few Lynskey and Litespeed Ti frames, and they're never cheap but they look right and seem to last.

I've got a 97 Litespeed Ocoee, which was Lynskey period (has a signature to prove that). Construction is exemplary.

Personally, I cannot see why Lynskey would cut corners on frame construction with the new Ti Inbreds.

100% agree.

What I don't know (and perhaps you can enlighten me here) is whether the later Ti Inbred were actually made by Lynskey for certain?

TiInbreds were not made by Lynskey. Only the 2007-on Ti456 is a Lynskey frame.

Sorry, yes, I was mixing the two models up.

It's very interesting to hear that the Ti456 is a Lynskey though. It certainly got cracking reviews and was very well priced.

If it's not true then On-One are guilty of seriously abusing Lynskey's name and badge... http://www.on-one-shop.co.uk/?p=3422

The ludicrously low price is not normal, though.

You'd be pretty pissed off if you;d paid full wahck for one a few months ago!

And something there just doesn't sound 'right' to me; they're £300 light, per frame, over waht they were selling for previously, which was already a very keen price for a Ti frame (and I'm sure that where Lynskey was involved, they'd have got their 'normal' rate for the product) in any case....

I bought a Ti Lynskey from Planet X for a grand last year. The the dollar added a few hundred quid on top a bit later. That's a good buy now! Just about the best makers around. What Litespeed used to be, before they sold out and became a posh label on average product.

Got to be honest, I had a ride on a buddies Ti 456 and wasn't particularly impressed with it. Just felt very unforgiving compared to my usual similar-style rides.

Perhaps it just didn't suit me, but it's a warning to take everything from media reviews with a pinch of salt. A right shame because I love the looks and appeal of a Ti 456...
