Does anyone have a spare heater fan switch?
being a Wedger I have to have the top off but winter is comming.
Mine on the 400 is worn out. I have tried to repair it but it failed again. I really need to replace it with a good one as I don't want to keep having to take the centre dash out.

Thanks

Brian

ears Cold eh ....same here ........Jills helper is in need

Sorry to hijack this thread ...but the same problem has happened to the 450,the switch has packed up,
and its getting cold and a tad damp.

I've no problem either sourcing the offending item or fixing it. but some help on how to remove
the dash to get the job done would be appreciated please.

I will also earn some brownie points if I sort it sooner rather than later smile

Pull the radio/housing out feed hands in, rummage around and you will find two studs with nuts to the left & right of the radio hole holding the veneer plate on, I think 10mm off the top of my head, spanner/socket cut hands etc and plate will come off, then a matter of unscrewing the dash plate that holds the switch gear and gauges. After that you will probably have to remove the heater controls to move the dashplate out enough to get at the switches. I put my one back together with wing nuts, alot more user friendly
Cheers

Yep, that's the way to do it. You should be able to get to the switches without taking the heater cables off. I just removed the knobs and was able to change the light switch as well. Just be careful when removing the veneer panel. If it has not been removed before it could be tight to get off and it is easy to cerack the veneer so easy as she goes. wink

No need to worry about the veneer it's well and truly rubber ducked.

That's another project I'm under orders to sort out, the damp has blown the thing off the backing plate

Halfway there now I know how to remove the dash ..thanks chaps

I believe you can use the headlamp one, I tested mine using the headlamp switch prior to finding the blower motor playing up, just needed a good clean as years of dust had affected the motors operation. The labels will also transfer
Cheers

Exactly right, the internals of the fan and lights switches are the same. All the switches are from the Lucas 182SA series; the fan switch type is 33939A. I don't have the part number for the lights switch to hand but it is the same switch with a different legend. The later cars used a different switch on the (SD1) steering column (series 183SA, type 30713E if anyone needs it).

You can make the fan switch last longer by reconfiguring it so that on high speed the switch activates a relay which then switches the motor on. That way the high current of the motor is not passing through the switch, which tends to arc the contacts and even melt the switch body.

seems a good idea. What relay did you use?

That's great Sean. Didn't mean to hassle you, it's just that when the PH mail didn't work and then no reply to the others i thought there was a problem.

Hope your trip was successful and appreciate your help.

I think I will also try to clean up the motor if I can get to it and fit a relay.
Belt, braces and a piece of string biggrin
