I've been looking around at 360's in the 50ish bracket for a few weeks now and of the 7 or eight vehicles I've taken time to go to look at, not one of them is either described correctly or have all the claimed service history in place.
I was warned that these cars are prone to being tampered with but this is becoming beyond a joke. Why do people buy expensive cars and not keep up service history or when they have a prang get second rate repairs done. Of all the cars I've bought this is proving to be the most difficult never mind the amount of miles I've covered in search.

My father in law is the perfect Example of this.

Has a 355 that he puchased some 9 years ago, One of the last T registrations with 2k on the clock.

He has only covered 5k miles in it himself and bar having the cambelts changed as he should, He has never had and annual service as such.

Shame realy as i would imagine if it had annual services, A late T reg 355GTs F1 with 7000 miles on the clock would be worth a fair bit.

Sounds like a bit of a time bomb to me. With so few miles covered and no-one checking/changing fluids etc, the car could be ready for some serious work.

I completely agree! A lot f people think just because it hasn't been used things won't need replaced, but they will! I think it's time you have a SERIOUS talk with your father in law wink!

Oh iv'e told him time and time again, He has just had the cambelts chnged and does this along with the major service as and when is required.

However as with most of his cars they're keepers so just doesn't bother with the annuals as it only see's a couple of hundred miles a year,

Shame really frown

I own a low mileage (7000M) 360M. It's a fully serviced car so they are out there. Mine's just soooo nice though that I just can't sell it (at the mo).

Because if you're completely honest in an advert, people use that info against you!
I've got my car (348) advertised, and have indeed been 100% honest about it's condition and history, I've had half a dozen serious calls, all the conversations follow the same theme:
How much can you drop?
and
with regards to the bubbling... frown

Now, I'm pretty damned sure that the people not mentioning every little detail do not have 'perfect' cars, I saw at least a dozen and they all had faults which had not been described.
Mine was not without it's needs, but the previous owner had been completely honest in it's needs, and that instils confidence and realism.

I won't even go into the dealers who 'warn' off private selling cars, because I know it's happened (oh it's not original blah blah blah), and then proceed to sell the buyer one of their own cars instead. boils my pee.

I would however say, you are doing the right thing in going to see them, because now you know, you'll never have the what if? question.
You're also a better judge when you do find the right car.
So keep up your search, don't be completely swayed by opinions of those selling the cars, and keep looking. I took 3 months to find my car, and have been chuffed to bits with it smile

Good Luck

I bought an 03 Spider in April. It had done 3800 miles in 6 years (yup, crazy!!) but had a 7 full Ferrari main dealer services inc 2 cambelt changes. Realitively speaking it wasn't at a great premium to some of the more patchy ones available at the time. And... I have almost doubled the mileage smile

Interesting topic, I have my Black 328 advertised on a Ferrari Chat site only yet since I put it up on there I have had a couple of people mess me about.

I am seriously debating negotiating a fee to an independent to sell it, I cannot be bothered with all the grief that comes with it, sure I will haggle but from past experience of selling my motorbikes unfortunately people can be a total nightmare.

Good luck with your search, be very fussy..the right car is out there and it will come up for sale.

Just bought an 04 plate 360 Spider and wanted black manual car.... now that was a nightmare, but after 3 months of looking found a perfect car, 2 owners, 5900 miles and not a mark on it. You just have to keep at it and be patient, there is a lot of rubbish out there (think the 360 being so usable means they are not consistently as good as 355's were at this age) and you will find the car you are after.

I consider myself more than fussy but quite often have forgiven very low mileage cars that might have missed the odd service due to only a few hundred miles use in a year. One car though was quite unbelieable.. Thought I had found my perfect 'keeper' a few years bask - 993 turbo 's' 1 owner from new only 8000 miles from new..Wow - first on the phone first to jump in my car and go and view. Was so excited forgot to ask about history or services... Got there (mansion!) car was just about ok being totally original and nothing a dam good clean couldn't sort, but when I opened the service history book slack mouth moment...Nothing!! Surely it must of been serviced at some point in the last 10 years?? No - we didn't think it was worth doing!!!!!!!!!!!! Still can't get over it...

I know someone who owns an SLK and after a very bad service experience at year one, it has never been serviced since. 8 years and not even the brake fluid has been changed! eek

Totally worthless IMO.
