I think Ive spelt it right....
Not a common issue admittedly but for the last 3 years I have been promising my mum a new pair of secateurs as she is a keen gardener. Is this really worthy of pistonheads discussion? who knows - but bear with me, please?
Can anyone recommend a pair of secateurs up to about £50 that are a single scissor action as opposed to the 'repeat action' ones that seem prevalent? Ideally theyd be lightweight and sturdy (a contradiction i know) but she does tackle roses etc which are fairly stout.
I am no expert in the field - Paolow towers has no garden - can anyone make any recommendations?

I have bugger all interest in gardening but the Bahco secateurs always look very nicely made when I'm hanging around at the garden centre waiting for someone else to make her mind up. There are some on the link posted above.

The two basic kinds are overlap cut (like scissors) and anvil cut - it's a personal preference.

I tried Wolf secateurs but they had a normal spring between the handles and it kept falling out, which was very annoying. Hence I'd go for the, er, other kind of spring (overlapping spring steel, hard to describe!). Other than that, I expect you get what you pay for. Visit a good garden centre and try some out.

I use these:

£7.99 and very well made. Excellent for cutting even thick stalks/small branches. You don't need to spend £50 on something like this.

Yep, Felco's are the best. Used by nearly all the professional horticulturists.

Their rotating handle version is really comfortable if you are using them for any length of time.

They also do a smaller 'ladies' model and one shaped to be more comfortable for left handed people.

Some very good prices on that link to World of Felco too!!! Garden centres will charge you the full RRP.
