Track Day Insurance for Under 25's.
Discussion
Hi all,
My friend and I have been discussing the idea of buying a cheap E30 325i or similar car to strip out and mod for track day use. The problem is my friend and I are both 22. Does anyone know of insurance companies who will insure us for track day use because every insurance company I can think of (Hagerty, Lancaster etc.) will not insure under 25's.
Thanks in advance.

I'm 23 and have used Competition Car Insurance in the past, no problems.
Thanks, I'll look them up. If you don't mind me asking, what did you insure with them and roughly how much was it? I'm just looking to get an idea and sort out a rough budget for the car, preparation, insurance, safety gear etc.Edited by hyperblue on Sunday 18th October 20:22

May I ask why you'd need track day insurance on an old E30?
I thought you needed track day insurance to cover you as my normal insurance wouldn't allow it. What's puzzling me though is what happens if you have an accident without track day insurance? Obviously you have to foot the bill but how do you go about telling your normal insurance company as I assume you still have to tell them even if you can't claim through them due to the restrictions on racing/track days/rally days etc.Not sure about telling your insurance company, but it you have a crash, you repair it yourself. Even if you have trackday cover, it only covers your own vehicle, so even if you hit someone, it doesn't cover any third parties. The same applies, if someone takes you off, their insurance if they have any, doesn't cover your car, so you will still end up paying.
Its an individual responsibility to repair your own vehicle no matter how the accident happens.

OK I understand now, thanks for clearing that up. Kind of annoyed as I've been wanting to take my classic Mini out round Brands hatch or somewhere for ages and I was always worried I wouldn't be allowed as my normal insurance didn't allow it.Its an individual responsibility to repair your own vehicle no matter how the accident happens.

whether they have insurance or not. Also not sure on the legal standpoint, I do remember reading a post from someone who got hit in the pit lane before going on track and I beleive it got quite nasty as to who would pay.joe_90 said:
Why do you need to insure the car for?
I figure buying a e36? 328 soon, stripping it, adding brakes and suspension.. If and IF we tool it, just buy a new one for 600ish quid, and bold the bits back on again?
That's why I insure my car, so when Joe tools his car into mine, I'm not 17k down I figure buying a e36? 328 soon, stripping it, adding brakes and suspension.. If and IF we tool it, just buy a new one for 600ish quid, and bold the bits back on again?
. Although no matter what you sign as a disclaimer, the law still covers trackdays, so if someone can be proved to be negligent when they crash into you, you can still take out an action against them and they can still be prosecuted, the disclaimer just helps negate the TDOGassing Station | Track Days | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
