With respect, would you care to expand on that?

I think it's the idea of a near 2500kg 4x4/car which boasts the 'M' badge. I will be the first to put my hands up and say the E9x M3 and the E60 M5 are lardy bds but at least they are RWD and normally aspirated.

It's certainly well worth a look if you have a complete lack of taste.

Each to there own i suppose!!! Im just looking at one for a daily runner as i don't like the cayenne, if we all liked the same it would be a tad boring and for what i need it for it will suit me down to the ground!!!

i`m gonna stick my neck out and say I like it as well, BMW would have been better served by not calling it an M though. If it didn`t have that moniker people would look at it a wee bit differently albeit it would still be perhaps THE most politically incorrect offering this side of a Cayenne Turbo (and only just this side). Looks like it would sit well in your garage too, just get rid of the X5! I saw one at Cooper Cobham, very intimidating.

I'll expand: I don't resent its existence. I resent the fact that it bears the M badge. It is just an X6 with an engine fettled by M GmbH. They always said they would never make an M7 or an X5 M and now they have been forced to put their badge on the SUVs. There is no point whatsoever in having that kind of power in a massive, 2.5 tonne vehicle with a high CG.

The reviewers agree with me.

I have seen a few X6's and they do not look nor appeal to my design nor driving senses whatsoever. Big yes, clever not really, unnecessary yes and there are enough high powered 4x4 already, why build another?

I also thin that the M Division in Munich have long lost the plot and will put a badge on anything to help sell. A company now lead by accountants not engineers and racers.

BMW need some CSL's and to go racing to re-ignite the passion for all things M. Not sell M badges on all their cars.....M7 series anybody???? oops sorry Alpina with the B7S.

Zod i agree that maybe it should'nt have an M badge but after driving one i have to say it is ALOT better than a Cayenne Turbo S in every aspect, which to be honest in that part of the market is the yard stick and M div have beat them hands down! It handles well for a suv and im not getting one for that reason its because its different and personally i quite like that!

David,

I have driven neither, but am not at all surprised that it is better than a Caynne Turbo S. I have no doubt that it is a suprmeley competent machine, but to me, it just is not an M car.

If you like it, and are lucky enough to afford one, then you have my blessing.

Seriously, unless Jeremy Clarkson says its a good car, I dont think you will get much support on here.

At least you you have made up your own mind based on its real merits, unlike most people on PH, who just like to declare anything st for the attention.

Clarkson is an idiot who comments for effect.

I'm sure it's great to drive - unfortunately it looks like a Bradford drug dealer's wet dream and is inevitably compromised by the fact that it's a foot higher off the floor than it needs to be, without the benefit of the ground clearance, axle articulation or tyres that would do justice to the pretence that it's an "SUV". The "U" bit of SUV is also a bit of a red herring given that it only has four seats and not much space for anything in the back.

If you're buying it for dynamics, it will never be as good as a 5 Series Touring with this drivetrain would, and even the pointless X5M is less pointless from a practical point of view (and neither of them are quite as repulsive to look at). It most definitely shouldn't have an M badge stuck on it.

I can't see why anyone would choose one at all unless they like red tarmac driveways, hot tubs and sunbed tans.

My point exactly. Although I do find him funny.

Problem is too many people just mimick his opinion, and that is what seems to be happening in this thread. Lots of people just jumping on the popular opinion bandwagen, and slating someone elses choice, that they probably dont have the financial option to choose themselves.

Same zomboid/lemmings/pied piper rubbish was thrown at Cayenne(see loads about though) and Panamera.Granted X6 is no beaut and is rather ungainly, but word ugly is strictly for Fiat Multipla and Ford Scorpio
People are wildly and irrationally hypersensitive about styling.
