£50 for a late drivers briefing?!
Discussion
Depends whether you would prefer waiting until lunchtime (i.e missing half a day's track time) so that the crew are available, or paying extra to get on quickly?
Most people don't run out of fuel on a track day on purpose, but it still happens.
As long as the terms are stated on the booking form or confirmation email, then I can't see how anyone could complain.

Let's get the facts correct before entering a public slanging match.
We don't charge £50 for a drivers briefing. We charge £50 for additional drivers (as most companies charge). We do (very kindly IMO) waive this fee for any second drivers who make the effort to arrive in time for the main drivers safety briefing. That's a more than reasonable compromise as far as i'm concerned. If anyone is unable to arrive at that time, we do also ensure we have staff available all day to sign-on and brief late arrivals - for which there is an additional overhead cost.
I'm the first to admit that £50 is a lot of money for an additional driver - but i'm not charging that in order to make more money - it's a deterrent, i'd gladly forego 100% of the additional driver fees we collect in order to have everyone signed on and briefed before the circuit goes live.

Maybe you should make that clear with your staff mate, because frankly they were clueless yesterday and this isn't the first time we've had issues on BAT days.We don't charge £50 for a drivers briefing. But don't worry it won't happen again................. I and none of my trackday pals will book with you again
Ouch. At risk of getting verbally abused for sticking up for a TDO...I have found Jonny and BaT:
When you book yourself on to a track day, you are paying for one driver in one car. The fact that Jonny lets the second driver go free as long as they attend the briefing on time, is actually very generous from what I have seen.
If you have to turn up on time for the drivers' briefing in order for your second driver to go free, then that's a very fair compromise. In fact, I consider £50 for an additional driver more than fair at BaT venues, but again, that's my personal opinion and view of what is expensive/excessive.
Track days are expensive. Motorsport is expensive. If that's not acceptable, then there's always the local out-of-town supermarket car park.
- Professional
- Fair, both in terms of costs and black-flagging idiots
- Helpful and accommodating whenever I had problems

You were doing well, with some good points, until the last paragraph. Really, is there any need? - Professional

thanks for the support Andy but let's not give this guy too much credibility, after all one of his track day 'pals' posted this on another forum earlier today :-

Apologies for the gross generalisation, I appreciate that not everyone going on track days have just graduated from doing doughnuts around supermarket car parks.
What I'm trying to say, is that I routinely drop a few hundred quid on each track day - closer to £500 for the big-name and highly desirable circuits such as Silverstone and Goodwood. Paying another 30/40/50 quid to have an experienced mate along to show me the lines etc., is a drop in the ocean in the grand scheme of things.

Jonny, the purpose of this post was to seek others opinions on whether people thought it was reasonable or not to charge for a drivers briefing (which is what were told we were being charged for yesterday). It seems that most think your policy is reasonable, whilst I do not. That is fine, we're all entitled to our opinions.some retard on another forum said:

I don't think it's unfair that there is a charge for making the track day organizer carry out another briefing for something which is out side of their control.
It would annoy me having to pay £50 but it's not the track day organizers fault if I'm late.
What if they'd said, you've missed the briefing so your not going out on track.
I also think not charging for 2nd drivers when most charge for passengers is very generous.

A damn good kicking, followed by a lifetime ban from all circuits and airfields?I've witnessed a couple of crashes while on track days - which should be rare if not impossible, as you're not racing and have enough rules to make sure you can drive home at 5pm. If you play by them. Which, some people don't.
Those people tend to be the ones taking the piss throughout the drivers' briefing, have some sort of attitude problem and are incredibly rude towards marshalls and TDO staff.
Naturally selection should take care of them...but ideally not against my race-prep'd car.
