Sao Paulo - McLaren were fined $50 000 on Sunday for a Brazilian Grand Prix incident that sprayed fuel over Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari and triggered a flash fire in the pit lane.
Their Finnish driver Heikki Kovalainen was also handed a 25- second penalty, to be added retrospectively to his race time, for an unsafe release in which he trailed the fuel hose behind his car.
Raikkonen, following close behind, had his visor sprayed with vapour which ignited in a fiery ball as it hit the hot exhaust.
The stewards also fined Italian Jarno Trulli $10 000 and reprimanded the Toyota driver for aggressively confronting Force India's German Adrian Sutil by the side of the track after they collided and crashed out on the opening lap.
They concluded that the collision itself was a racing incident with no further action required.

I am struggling to remember what punishment Ferrari received for the identical incident with Massa at the Singapore Grand Prix last year. I am pretty sure there was none, although fuel was sprayed all over the pitlane in that case too. Massa did get a 10-second penalty for being released into the path of Adrian Sutil in that case, though.
I suspect that the Brawn team removed the hose for McLaren because HK was sat in his car blocking the exit of the Brawn pit, but nevertheless, it was a nice sporting gesture and you didn't see anyone doing it for Ferrari last year...

Which means the shut of valve wasnt in operation, every other time it has happened fuel hasnt spilled out which would leave me to think that fuel does not remain in the ose after the syetem is closed.
Could be wrong but thats my impression.

There is still going to be fuel in the hose though, which is probably what spilt out, think in all other occasions the fuel rig has been in the process of being remove, so it has been closed, in this one it was still 'pumping'.Could be wrong but thats my impression.

Give Kimi and Ferrari a fine and a 25 second penalty.
Kovi was release blatantly while fuel rig was still attatched, no attenpt was even being made to remove it, fuel was still being delievered and he was released.
Get over it.

I can't believe some of you are actually saying the fact that he set fire to another driver is irrelevant.
How about this situation, someone legally fires a gun, no punishment, right?
Now, the same person, fires the same gun, legally, however this time, it injures/kills someone.
Now, the potential was the same, and the consequences were different, just like Massa's & Kovi's hose incidents.
So, are you still saying the consequences are irrelevant?

Forget the politics for a moment.
They only released him when they did to get in front of the Ferrari, they were still pumping gas, they could have blinded another competitor who could then have ploughed into another pit.
It was a crazy release, only done to gain track position with no regard for anything else.
They were damn lucky to get away with a fine as in my opinion it was unforgivable.
