Wanted GTR - engine advice needed
Discussion
Firstly, a big hello to all you guys on the forum.
I am looking to buy a GTR second hand and having looked through the forums for a number of months, have found a lot of chat about different engines.
I am really wondering on why there seems to be a bit of criticism about American Speed Engines? I am totally new to the world of V8 power and coming from a 1.8 R500 K-series engine to world of LS2's, 6's and 7's etc etc am looking for any advice!?!?
With regard to what i want from the car, it will have mainly road use and am looking for around 500bhp. What alternatives are there to american speed?
many thanks and hope to be speaking and meeting you all some time soon in an ult!

Oooh - can of worms there
Simply put, if you buy an American Speed engine you can do so safe in the knowledge that it will fit the car, the price includes all the necessary ancilliaries and you'll get decent support from both American Speed and the factory. A peace of mind choice if you will.
Now, there are plenty of Chevy specialists out there and quite a few in the UK. Some swear by them - others swear at them, just down to personal preference really. However, what I would say is this, it's very easy to be bowled over by someone's 'perceived' knowledge, only to have your pants taken down when you come to pay for it.
There is no 'right' choice, but some are certainly safer than others IMHO.

I recently bought a LS7 for my canam and I can only recommend that french company that has 29 or so of these engines overstock from a cancelled race programm
that they were preparing the engines for. They have some very professional and expensive bits on them, see my build site in the forum here.
Other than changing a little at the chassis to clear space for the external oil pump the engine just drops into an ultima. They can supply you with a preprogrammed ECU from DTAFAST that will run a mechanical throttle cable. I never had any issues from the very first start and my Innovate Lambda sensors tell me that they understand a lot of engines, which as STIG already mentioned is not always the case. I have full access to the ECU and can change anything if I want, apart from activating the Lambda fuel correction I did not alter the intial settings. You can have a look at the map if you download the DTAWIN program and the GMLS7 map, that was tuned for my engine.
If you have any questions or need a contact to these guys drop me a PM. Considering that you buy from a french company an engine and an UK based ECU manufacturer you will have the best support imaginable.
