I find that tidying things and making lists helps me de-stress - I don't tend to get stressed when things are organised/neat.

...or go to the gym - that helps too.

Bad thing: Chewing - be it pens, my fingernails or random bits of plastic

Don't really have many good things as I tend to de-stress quite well as soon as I switch off and finish trying to deal with whatever the problem is.

Gym or some mind numbing computer game to occupy my brain

I think we should encourage more stress.

Drink heavily, lose temper at minor things and enjoy some nice insomnia.

Labyrinthitis (sp) gets me when I am truly 100% stressed. Twice in the last ten years.

Get pissed.

It makes a refreshing change to have a different reason to drink. thumbup

...I've just realised! Since working for myself, ditching 'The Mental' and packing up smoking - there actually isn't any stress in my life!

This is the key bit. It's about doing things that take your mind off your current reason for the stress.

If you can control your mind (easier said than done) then you can stop yourself thinking about whatever the problems are that you're having in your life. Otherwise, doing something to distract your mind is the next best thing.

Good thing: Go for a run - lets me sort my head out and get things in perspective while out of contact with others.
Bad thing: Beer wink

I find that I end up categorising stuff that is stressing me in one of 3 ways:
  • Stuff I am in control of - work out what to do and do it.
  • Stuff completely out of my control - accept it and move on.
  • Stuff partly in my control - work out what I can influence to improve the situation then try to do that.

Go for a walk (as much as you can in central london!) and actually enjoy interacting with random people and putting a smile on their face - improves my mood no end. Read a book (if I can concentrate long enough). If I had a car I would definitely add going for a blat to the list. If I lived nearer a golf course I'd go for a "spoilt" walk too. smile
