Hi all. In a normal domestic fuse box with switch fuses are there any conditions in which a fuse currently in the off position couldn't be reset when the main power switch turned off? If the answer is no then I have found my problem. If not then I'll go back to doing this. banghead

If power is off, then the fuse should reset.
If power's still on, and a fault still exists, the fuse might not reset, or might reset then blow again shortly afterwards.
Sounds like yours is the first one. The fuse assembly may need replacing completely if that's the case.

On my main plug socket fuse, if it trips it trips to a halfway position. I have to push it fully off before it will reset to "On" again.

Andy, yep it's the first one.
A2d, mine are only on or off so I don't think it's this. Thanks for the idea though.

I may have to take the front off to see what's going on then. I might wait until it gets light again though!

What make is it? Some have to pushed all the way down first before pushing them up. Can you post a photo?

Here we go. Obviously it's number 7 that's the problem.

Here's a close up of the problem fuse. To any burglars reading this, my security lights may be playing up but the alarm still works. hehe

That type should push straight up and reset. It sounds like the MCB is Goosed.

Should it pull out like a giant car fuse or will it be screwed in? Would I be right in thinking I can check this is the problem by trying another, correctly rated fuse in the same position?

Edited to add a quick google reveals the connections are screwed in. Excellent, I'll try swapping it with another one in the morning.

Thanks for the advice. thumbup
