My wifes 320d, now 3 year and a bit years old, has spent it's life doing many short journeys (pretty much at least two sub 5mile every day) coupled with one or two longer trips every week for its whole life. It has now done around 50,000 miles and has started to drink oil at an almost unbelievable rate. I've also noticed a small dribble coming from the exhaust on start up in the morning. It tells me it has 1800miles till the next oil change (which I have booked early) but should I be expecting worse - fked main bearings for instance?

Turbo's hate short runs!

if they sit on a m'way all day long then it makes the turbo last a lot longer,it sounds like yours is on its way!

All you can do is have the engine breather changed on service for the new type and see how it goes.

We are going to have to get an air-cooled car. She has to do the short runs everyday to and from work and there just isn't time to warm the engine up properly. I'll get them to take a look and see what they think, sounds like instead of heading to the dealer to pick the car up again, I'll be heading to the showroom to pick the next one!
