Ok firstly I am quite new to bikes hence me posting on here to get some ideas.

I'm looking at getting a mountain bike to do mostly off road riding through Woods, Off-road courses...just general off road stuff and a little on the road. I want something that is capable off road and can handle the jumps and rough terrain, also light weight would be good.

Don't really want to spend more that £300, second-hand or brand new. If I can get a much better bike for £300 second hand then I would prefer that.

Looking at forums bikes such as 2nd hand Carrera Fury, GT Avalanche 1.0, Genesis Core .etc. But as I said I am new to this so please give me your suggestions for second hand or new bikes? Also where is best to buy from?

Anyone?!

Carrera Kraken or Fury look good just from searching the internet. The Kraken is a bit cheaper, anyone know if they are any good?

A new Vengeance looks like a very good buy for £300, similar spec to a lot of £500 bikes. I'd just get one of those:

Bikes don't tend to hold their value very well so for £300 I'd definitely be looking at second hand.

Have a look on the 'bay.

I've been looking at Ebay but there are so many! I just don't know which is good or bad. Been looking at Decathlon one's and they look quite good for the money.

Also that Carrera one at Halfords was my first thought and seems a good price.

I've just recently bought a Scott Aspect for about £300 from Evans Cycles, very happy with it so far!

Good advice.
I bought a 5 month old Kona Blast Deluxe for just over £300...pretty much half-price.

Might be some bargains to be had in the run-up to christmas.
