Has anyone here tried these people. Or is there somewhere else you can offload your scrap gold for a better price.

I found one of those massive thick link gold bracelets at Hammersmith last year. I handed it in to the police and it was returned to me unclaimed.
It was obviously no use as I'm not a 'gangsta' so I sold it to those gold dealers with a stall at Fulham Broadway.
I got about 5 a gram. Which although pretty cheap it was very convenient and it would just have sat in a drawer at home.
I think you can get 6 or 7 a gram if you shop around a bit.
This bracelet weighed 120grams.
Result.

I had a quick look today and was quite surprised - cash4gold etc seem to offer rates which are very similar to the spot gold price

eg yesterday, based on £630/troy oz
24 carat £20.26/gr
22 carat £18.56/gr
18 carat £15.19/gr
9 carat £7.60/gr

cashforyourgold offer £20.40/£18.70/£15.30/£7.65 so they are presumably banking on gold prices continuing to rise for a while .. or perhaps they diddle everyone on the weigh-in ?

My wife took a few bits of old gold (broken/worn chains, earrings etc) down to our local jewelery shop, I told her not to bother as she'd probably only get 50 or 60 quid for it but she got £350.

Now I'm sure it's 'worth' considerably more but as it was effectively worthless to us it seemed like a result, although she spent half of it back in the Jewelers... rolleyes

Actually Gordon Brown might have got more for our gold reserves at cash4gold...

The scam is that when gold prices suddenly rocket, the poor sod who just sold his bit of gold will be wondering 'why on earth did I sell that?'

I'd hang on to my gold. Most of these 'Cash 4 Gold' companies are owned by banks or governments. Why should gold be in national/bank ownership rather than in private hands?

Why don't they want us to have gold? Why the sudden wave of all these adverts? What's really in store for future gold prices? Is the recession going to worsen with gold prices going to rocket?

Maybe the Govt are trying to buy back what they sold. get the reserves up again so when all the world leaders next get together for a group cock waving contest our lot can argue back when the bigger boys start to take the piss about our poor gold stocks, you know, "we have more gold than you and our dad could kick your dads ass" that sort of thing.

Or the current govt are salting away enough to pay for their future stay at the fletcher memorial home.

My Mum & Dad were broken into a few weeks ago...they stole all the gold they could find (Which wasn't a lot...but still) and nothing else.
The value of gold and the fact that you can trade it in no questions asked must be a god send to thieving bds.

You need ID to sell it to them. (I did anyway)

I guess the reputable ones will cross reference the days 'take' with the local police.

Well, China (who incidently has a far far bigger and better economy than ours) seems to be doing the opposite.

They are actively encouraging private citizens to go out and buy gold for themselves as a preserver of their current wealth.

Remember: paper money can decline in value rapidly. Commodities like gold on the other hand will always be in demand.

Change that paper into assets rather than the other way around.

I'd rather be left holding a small handful of gold that has a 'significant' value than a briefcase load of paper notes that used to be worth £100,000 but is now only worth a tin of beans.
