But the poor girl is not too stupid to fk.

Telegraph

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. The nanny state. The lass. The bloke too stupid to wear a condom but honest enough to want to marry her. Blimey.

Social services 'to take baby from teenager deemed too stupid to marry'

A mother-to-be, who was banned from marrying after social workers said she is not intelligent enough, is to have her baby taken away immediately after giving birth.

Kerry Robertson, 17, who has mild learning difficulties, has been told that she will not be allowed to bring up her own child, who she has already named Ben.

Last month Miss Robertson was prevented from marrying her fiancé Mark McDougall, 25, after council officials claimed that she “did not understand the implications of getting married”.

Can that state sterilise her?

The Americans did that sort of thing during their experiments with Eugenics IIRC.

Is it possible to get that sort of power legally? If not she could easily become a baby-making machine like other cases we have seen recently. Bad business all round.

Just seen a few seconds of interview with her and she doesn't seem as thick as half the council workers I have had the misfortune of dealing with....

She and many thousands of others. Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that had she not done this she'd be looking for a cure for cancer, BUT there are millions of people who seem thick as s**t and they have reproduced and, as I said, got jobs etc.

With the facts to hand it sounds to me like a disgrace.

She may have 'mild learning difficulties' but the bloke was willing to stand by her, marry her, and help raise the kid.

There seems a growing number of Social Workers too keen to seize children for adoption in order to meet their targets.

Indeed, I thought the same, there's something very dark going on here by the council services IMO. This couple seem to have more between them than your average benefit claiming baby machine!

It's not statutory rape, that would be if she were under the age of consent and yet consented to sex. She would have been over the age of consent (in the UK anyway).

Agree with this.

So we do nothing about the feral, drug and alcohol dependent, eductationally and socially stunted youth producing benefit funded offspring.... often living in violent and abusive squalid homes - these are overlooked - yet this girl who appears to have very mild LD but also has a comitted partner has her life interfered with - because she is an easy (soft) target.

Frightning. Social services need scrapping and starting again. They have far too much power, far too little oversight, and an agenda.

Seems like a very poor reason to take away the child, both parents want to be involved. I'm aware that she has learning difficulties but how about providing her with practical assistance like training in how to look after the child and someone she can turn to for help.

It sounds heartbreaking and wrong to me that a child can be taken away from someone just because they have learning difficulties, surely if the child is loved and cared for thats all that matters. By all means keep an eye on the situation but this is taking things a bit far.

I think the baby P thing scared the hell out of the whole system, so they've now gone to the other extreme.

Won't someone think of the children?

Would you want to grow up with all your peers jeering 'Oi, your mum's a spacker' every day, without fail?

Very scary to think that they can get away with this.

Because 'Someone' thinks you maybe a little slow, that's enough of a reason to take away your child. What will they be taking away next....your house? Putting you in a Government Mental home?

A couple of months ago on LBC there was an interview with the second girl mentioned (Rachel Pullen). She was able to conduct the interview but said the baby's name instead of calling them "Baby K", after the second or third instance he presumably ran out of delay buffer and had to give up.

In that case the child was three, so there was probably evidence of actual risk.

Scottish law is such that somebody maybe refused a marriage licence if they are deemed incapable of understanding the repercussions of their actions; in this case the complaint was made by social services and upheld by the registrar.

Having dealt with social services a number of times when doing local govt contracts years ago, I’d have to say that even though the average car worker on the ground may have their clients best interests at heart, it’s normally the management who should be deemed as being mentally incompetent rather than the clients
