I must say that my panning has come on leaps and bounds since I have been doing motocross. Being balanced on the side of a jump with bikes flying passed your head doesn't help though.

The first one looks like the inside of a corner. Perhaps try a very low camera view witha wide angle (might neede a remote release so you're not too close!)

a remote trigger is for wimps, I like to be in the thick of the action. My camera is not liking the dust and sand though.
