Senna's death was good for F1.

How extraordinarily strange.

True to form then . . .
I replied to this in the other thread and even before Id actually read any of the comments I said what context Bernie would have said them in. I finally managed to read the actual comments from Bernie today and lo and behold pretty much word for damn word what I said the context would be, there they were.
And Bernie was absolutely 100% correct in his context. Put it this way, if he wasnt, neither he nor the rest of the team principals would be as wealthy and powerful as they are now and as they are as wealthy and powerful as they are now, solely on the back of F1 and arguably the publicity hit they got from the death of Senna, then its a no brainer for Bernie to say what he did.

What a lovely warm human being Bernie is...
However you don't get to the boss of the world's most expensive circus (and stay there for decades) by being cuddly.
It was implied, but at least he didn't say "Ayrton's death stoked up my coffers big time"
He would be among the top ten people I wouldn't ever want at my dinner table (Bliar, Dotty Maggie, Silvio Buffoon, Mad Max, Amadinajihad, Rupert the Undead, Gates of Hell (&Vista), Dawkins the Godless and Lord ('why do I have to tell them everything') Winston)

I think that would make a great dinner table actually. Id invite that lot round like a shot. Some of them are odious slime, but it would give me much amusement to vent my spleen at them.However you don't get to the boss of the world's most expensive circus (and stay there for decades) by being cuddly.

Sorry, but no . .
. . that's what he's been amassing all that money for. To pay for ever lasting life; he's never going to die. Just wither into one of those Dalek 'organ' type figures waving a stick at the Silverstone Board shouting "exterminate!" for ever.

So maybe the team owners should add a clause to the drivers' contracts whereby one is obliged (at random, to keep the 'excitement' up) to die every season to keep the interest high and the funds flowing. Maybe they could bring back Piquet Junior to help 'arrange' it.And Bernie was absolutely 100% correct in his context. Context or not, what a disgusting idea/comment from such a reptilian character.

It was a dispassionate amoral comment from someone who is known to be amoral and dispassionate. It was also blindingly obvious what he meant. Right, wrong or moral judgements dont come into it, something Bernie has prooven many times over down the years.
I copy directly from Joe Saward's excellent blog, available at http://joesaward.wordpress.com/ and well worth a read. The article is called Meanwhile, back in the real world. I encourage you to have a read.
While we were chatting Norbert Haug arrived and was talking about the latest F1 scandal which was being reported in the Brazilian papers about Bernie Ecclestone saying that Ayrton Senna’s death was good for Formula 1…
Inwardly I groaned. Yes, I had heard the story, I said, and by a pure coincidence I knew all about it and I had even heard what Bernie had actually said. How? Because a Brazilian journalist came to me with his tape recorder and asked me to listen to Bernie’s word so that he could understand exactly what he meant. I listened and I explained that he was not saying that Senna’s death was good for F1 but that “unfortunately the publicity that was created by Senna’s death resulted in the sport attracting a large number of new fans”. I warned the Brazilian to be careful because there was clearly a danger of the remarks being misinterpreted if he was not careful in the way he wrote the story. I also explained that the same phenomenon had occurred in NASCAR after the death of Dale Earnhardt and made the point that it was an interesting reflection on human nature that such things occur.
I was very disappointed to hear later that the story came out saying exactly what I told the journalist to avoid saying. Sadly, I am rarely surprised these days. Newspapers will do whatever they wish to do to sell more copies and their journalists are under pressure to sensationalize everything.
Small wonder the F1 media does not get much respect when they do things like this. They do not deserve respect.

SENILE!
I've seen institutionalised grandads make wiser statements.
Bernie's choices;
Whatever, this should stump up a few more quid in my pay-me-to-assassinate-Bernie charity.

Bernie's choices;
- say nothing and keep such dubious thoughts as just that, like anyone else with control over each part of their mental faculties
- blurt them out and inevitably p
s off a lot of people, a lot of them probably Brazilian Senna-Widdows and embarass the honest long-suffering fans (again).
Whatever, this should stump up a few more quid in my pay-me-to-assassinate-Bernie charity.
