Working for Yell.com - field sales?
Discussion
Although I'm not currently on the job market having just recently started a new role, I'm curious to know if anyone knows anyone or has any experience of what it's like to work for Yell.com in the field sales capacity?
They seem to offer a reasonable package of £33.4k basic regardless of location in the UK. The OTE is £44,725 ,and the role comes with Car, Health, Pension, Life Assurance + Generous Incentives.

With that basic, benefits and incentives package i would say that selling advertising space is going to be high pressure, long hours, stressful with a side order of hassle.
If you are good at it, its probably great. Great package i think for what it is.
If you arent very good at it, unmotivated or just dont like cold calling i would leave well alone as it will probably scar you for life.

I used to do a similar role for ThomsonLocal phone book.
As with any sales job when its good its really good and when its bad it'll be really..really bad.
A very hard job when starting out getting your client base but easier after the 1st year when hopefully you get to renew a lot of them.
Cracking job package though

wouldn't field sales normally be a pre arranged meeting? I'm not in this field at all it's just that when Yell have contacted me it was always by phone first to arrange a meeting with sales rep and most of the time if the appointment has been arranged the sales part is almost 50% done anyway!
I've not worked for Yell, was the yellow pages in my day, but have employed a number of people who have come up through this route.
My experience is that for those who have a bit of common sense it provides a good basic sales training to build a sales career on, the good ones make some money and move on fairly quickly the poor ones don't last long.

If it's an entry level job, most likely you will be setting your own appointments to start with and will get an appointment setter when you've earned it by hitting targets etc. Gassing Station | Jobs & Employment Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
