Our marrow is looking for a house to rent. This one here says blah blah per month rent, deposit and £200 non-refundable charge to check references.

I have only rented once privately and haven't seen anything like this. Is it normal for some renter bloke to charge to check out your references?

Thanks.

nope, never seen this before. maybe it is to try and get people that know that they will defo get the house through references...but to be honest if it was me it seems like a bit of extra free money making for the guy and would steer clear of someone like that.

This happened to me this year.. Its not usual but it's just another way of them trying to skank all of your monies.. Try check if the company has bad rep on the internet.

There was something in my contact this year like a £50 fee for a compulsory admin contract end notice.. :S

Letting Agents are all s, they make these charges up as they go along and it seems that since business took a dive they have been pushing up the price.

3 years ago I paid £90, 2 years ago £120, 1 year ago £140.....

Now £200! fking disgraceful, it takes them 5 mins to make 2-3 phone calls.

Add to this all the other bullst charges they invent, like the £94 'contract signing fee' apparently it costs £94 to photocopy 5 sheets, staple it together and then scribble a name on it. Th best bit is with 4 people in the house they charged 4 times!

Heres a message to all the Letting Agents and their employees out there....

You are disgraceful theiving s.
