Obsolete Dash features??

Seeing as I have a virtually blank layout for my new dash, is there any point keeping things like:
1,The door lock button and LED
2,The boot open switch?(it opens from the alarm fob anyway,so the button could go somewhere more discreet)
Is there any push buttons that could be pushed once for side lights and then again for dipped beam?
Just thinking aloud before I take the cutting tools to the CF........

Have you considered lever switches Ant. Like the ones in the Ferrari 308 centre console. Little lever switches with flat-round plastic ends. They'd blend in nicely with our interior and a bank of them would look nice above the MIL panel.

There's little wrong with the original layout for me. I agree the central locking LED is a bit of a nonsense and would happily lose that. I like the reassurance of another way to access the boot if the bipper fails so wouldn't change that. The only thing I count as surplus is the noisy clock - I'd probably replace that with an oil temperature gauge or something a more useful.
I'm tempted to replace the existing switches/buttons with the flash aluminium johnnies but that's as far as it goes.
Keen to see what you come up with though Ant. - you may surprise me.

I agree with LG, nice push button switches are far better than any flicky or twirly alternatives from looks & ease of use. Face mounted versions seem a better design, just screw them on, I think TVR took the 'recessing' a bit too far - they stopped doing it with the dials pretty quickly though?
My list of deleted dash items:
1. I found there was little point of having a dash mounted volt meter. The clock is far more useful assuming it is telling the right time...
2. There's no point in having LEDs for the oil pressure indicator and alternator warning when there are perfectly good bulbs built in to the speedo. (Do the older instruments have these?)
3. The green indicator LED is pointless. There are 2 other bulbs that indicate what the indicators are up to, although they are out of sensible line of sight. 3 bulbs where 2 will do is not helpful. Why not put the 2 bulbs in a sensible location in the first place?
I opted to keep the boot opening switch because my keyfob won't open the boot when the engine is running. (The alarm prevents this as a "safety feature") The door lock button remains too, but mainly because it looked like a good button to hijack to do something else in the future...

DNB's reply reminds me I forgot about my indicator repeater LED mod.
I have a pair of LED's mounted to the steering column cowl because the indicator repeaters in the MIL panel are too far away for my peripheral vision and I had a hell of a scare when somebody pulled out of a side road because my left indicator hadn't self cancelled after a roundabout.
I will have them mounted in the dash when I get it redone. Maybe to the left of the speedo and right of the rev counter?

So, I am going to move the boot button to the dash lights on/off position and delete that.
Also delete the hijack button, so two less buttons on the dash.
The clock has gone too, nice AFR gauge for that spot.
Thinking of fitting some triangular LEDs either side of the ignition LED and then shorten the warning strip by two elements and then centralise it over the stereo aperture.
Wont be changing the style of button, I like the subtleness of them. Not a big fan of leven style things. I have even sprayed my Tuscan stalks saturn black!
Like the idea of the Tuscan ball vents, but again, they would have to go black........

Agree too, the only alteration I would have made would have been to replace the rather useless dash panel light on/off switch hidden under the driver's footwell with a rotating/dimming switch probably on the steering column alongside the rotating intermittent wiper duration control. +1 though to be honest and if it was possible I'd remove the MIL strip and replace them with simple single LED light units with a silver/stainless bezel to match the clocks in the dash.But as I've yet to take my dash apart to do the usual veneer/clock repair then I dont know if its even possible....
I sometimes wonder if more of the same alloy knobs like the lower dash heater controls would be the answer.
Push and twist position switches could combine sidelights, headlights, rear fog light into one switch.
You could probably get all the functions of the standard switches into three push/twist switches, including the second fan and replacing the dashboard light on/off with a dimmer.
So stick four in allowing a spare one for future proofing.
