I have a facelift Nov 2000 X plate M5 that is factory fitted with sat nav MK111 drive unit & widescreen. When i bought the car it had no sat nav disc. I have seen this on e-bay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bmw-5-Series-SE-2001-Sat-nav...
Would this be the correct disc for a MK111 sat nav drive unit & if so as long as the disc is not faulty do i just load it into the unit & it should work ok, i know absoultly nothing about sat nav never used sat nav. Just looking for a bit of help or advise on this & i do realise that being an old car the sat nav system probably isn't much good anyway ! Just wanted to see if it works. At the moment i have no sat nav option on my screen just, computer, radio, heater vent thing,cd player, is this because i don't have a nav cd loaded ?

Thanks Simon.

Hi Simon,

Yup, your nav will not work without the disc being present in the drive. Is navigation greyed out on the main display?

I wouldn't bother with that '01 disk either. You can find people who offer bang up to date discs for around £30-40 and will offer TMC/post code options as well as birds eye view (if you upgrade to a MK 4 DVD drive for the latter).

Cheers,

Steve

You need a CD not DVD and it must be a high version.

Aka 2009 - high CD

Or upgrade to MK4 and you can have any dvd high version aswell as other options like birdseye view etc etc

I don't really want to go to the expense of changing to a MK4 unit at the moment, do you know where i can buy a disc for my MK3 drive, i thought that one e-bay was a cd ? I realise that i need a cd & it is the MK4 that uses dvd's.

What would you suggest if i am to keep my MK3 drive, don't bother with anything !!

Thanks for the replies

Simon.

Morning,
I'm due to collect a 2002 52 reg 530i with factory sat nav this week. It currently has the 2001 disc in the DVD. Where is the best place to get an up to date replacement?

Thanks,

Phill

Got a 2008 (2) disk in my 535. It seems convinced that joining onto the M25, Junction 4 that it is actually heading onto the M20, but other than that it's been totally reliable and a very good system particularly with the postcode being very quick to enter rather than a whole address!

If you want a user manual, I found a pdf version on the web and can email it over if you wish.

There are free 2010 high DVD's all over the internet, and the speed camera data to go with them.

I upgraded my Mk3 to the latest software (v32) and 2010 Maps for £25 - easy process. I got mine from here:

http://www.bmw-satnav.co.uk/

Look on the bottom left of the page above, it also comes with the key disk - which you WILL need.

The v32 software is much better, gives you more features including BMW splash screen when powered on, split screen etc

Just be sure you follow the instructions!
