Im hopeing they are going to compete together in the race of champions
so we can see if hamilton is the best, or just because he started his career in a hot car where as button had to wait 9 years for a hot car.

Unless they are in the same car - we will never know. Lewis proved it against Alonso and Jenson has proved it against Rubens. You have to ask yourself why it did take him 9 years to get into a good car and why the bookies without knowing how the cars will be next year have Lewis,Alonso and Kimi as the favourites - We dont even know what Kimi will be driving but he is still rated higher, makes you wonder.

Personally, if i was asked to bet my house on who do i think would finish highest next year then i think that there would only be one answer.

Kovi beat Schumi in the ROC so he is the better driver right?

ROC is by no means a good way to measure ability. Jusy enjoy it for what it is.

Only a fool would take that nonsense seriously in determining who is the better driver.

Their philosophy didn't work this year.

Odds for Brawn to win the championship, either drivers of constructors were astronomical odds before start of play.

After their first pre-season testing, and certain bets were placed, those odds came down rapidly. But did they get it right? Nope!

Well, since they've never competed anywhere else in the same cars at the same time then who knows? RoC's are very short races, and Kovi's qualifying performance can be pretty good, so why not? I've never been especially convinced by Schumi's "God-like" reputation.

That would, of course, make Lewis the second comingsmile

IF they were all placed in identical cars (they are allowed to set up how they wish), fueled for 20 laps, and let loose around Silverstone, then we'd see......

Even a pair of identical cars wouldn't settle the issue. You'd need multiple types of identical cars, since one type of car may suit one driver but not the other. For example, Liuzzi could probably win a kart race against all the F1 drivers on the grid, but I don't think he'd fare well if they were racing in touring cars.

Having said that, I'd love for something like this to be held for all the F1 drivers. biggrin

I don't think Button is anywhere near Hamilton in terms of talent.

Button showed the heart of a champion only once this year, and that was in the last GP in Brazil. This exception aside, he won races solely because his car was so far ahead of everyone else's. The minute everyone else made up some (but not all) ground, he stopped winning races.

Being a world champion in my chosen sport, I see the character of Button all the time, fine when in front/on top, but bottle it when not. I think this sums up Button's year (Interlagos aside)

He could only ever win the WDC again in similar extraordinary circumstances. I don't believe anyone thinks he will (or could) win the WDC again.

I place him behind Hamilton, Vettel, Alonso, Kimmi, Rosberg, and Kubica in terms of driver talent.

Having said all this, I do like JB, and I was happy to see him win, for himself and for Blighty.

Amen to that. Couldn't agree more.

After 9 years, I feel JB is close to retirement and now he's got the WDC, motivation is lost. It'll be interesting to see if he gets a drive at all next year..

I've bet a Jenson Button fan in my office that after the end of this season he will never win another race. I do like Jenson but he's not in the same league as Hamilton. Next season is going to be all about him and Alonso, the pair of them are the class of the field.

You seem to be missing the point - they have been given these odds without having a clue what the cars will be like and we dont even know if Kimi will be in F1 next year. These odds are collated from how drivers and teams are viewed and rated. What has Alonso done in the last 2-3 years(F**k All!) but he is still second favourite?

Even if the cars are identical after testing - i think the odds would still favour Lewis,Alonso and Kimi. This season has maybe brought more questions than answers about Jensons ability.

I'd suggest you rethink your beliefs! is he is one of the best drivers at the moment, and has been for the last few years, despite being in a less than wonderful car for too long. The essence of F1 is great (or even the merely 'good') drivers can and do win the WDC in the right car. This has been the case for most of the championships! As young Mr Hamilton has demonstrated for most of this season - in the 'wrong' car there is not much you can do....

I believe JB could, with the right car, win it again - and certainly is motivated if the comment of being first Brit to do it back-to-back is anything to go by. Before anyone suggests 'the right car' has to be miles better than any other in the field, which this years Brawn wasn't, despite the myopic views of certain PHers, I just mean one that is competetive. (Don't take my opinion for it - like must PHers I probably talk censored most of the time - try reading the reviews of those that know better - the experienced F1 journos, drivers, team managers and pundits etc)

How much was that bet ~ wink I think you may learn a tad more come next season, just as you should have done this season provided your eyes are and were open sufficiently without bias imbalance.

Gentle reminder ~ Button was and IS still in the same class as Hamilton ~ That class is F1 and now WDC.

Well said Stirling ~ of course it is.

Without the car, you win nothing even if your name is Schumacher, Senna, Prost .... or... Hamilton.

The car was competitive for most of the season,Rubens was still scoring higher points when Jenson struggled. Remember that Lewis and Kim outscored Jenson from when there cars got upto speed until the end of the season. There is no point trying to argue this fact - when the cars were equal, he was nowhere to be seen apart from at Monza.

The only excuse i can give Jenson is that he maybe intentionally took his foot off the gas after his sixth win - only he can answer that.
