Post edit grace period?

Is it possible to have a grace period, of say.. 5 or 10 minutes? I know you can edit a post any time. But you always get that irritating message at the bottom. "This post was edited by so&so at 4:39pm on 05-10-09" or similar.
Most forums don't do that if you edit your post within a few minutes. Any chance we could have that too? Pretty please? Cherries n stuff? Its nice to get the chance to correct the odd spelling mistake or whatever. But it almost defeats the object if you get that message nailed on at the bottom, as it makes the post look untidy anyway!

It's just a pet hate of mine that i'd like tweaked, if possible

It's a nice idea but quite a tricky one to add without creating loop-holes that allow people to play silly buggers.

However there is the secret "ninja edit", which avoids the "Edited by" tags if you are quick enough...

Yes, I guess I can see how it may make it easier for certain folk to prat about. And I wouldn't want anything changed that would encourage that by any means. So perhaps best left alone then, or at best, a very short grace period perhaps?

As for the Ninja edit.. I wonder if this is similar trick I was aware of on another forum I used to use?! It rings a bell.. If you care to share, but not publicly, drop me a PM perhaps?

Its very simple to get rid of the "Edit" footnote - you just edit it out!

Hmm, but if you edit a post that has already been edited once, then all you are doing is making sure you only have one footnote, instead of multiples? (I see multiples in other folks posts quite regularly)
So you can edit out an old footnote, yes, but you can't stop the new/later one being generated? But if you can somehow, then I don't know what the trick is.

Anyways, im not trying anything crafty or sly here. And its no biggy.. I just like a neat post!

The Ninja edit is quite simple really, just copy your post, delete the old one and then paste it into a new reply.

If you do it quickly enough then you'll end up in the same spot in the thread and nobody will notice!
