I am looking to buy an S3 but am a lttle puzzled at the disparity of prices. Many S3's are now advertised in the 4-6k region but ones I call have all sold. Ones that are up for 7-8K are still for sale perhaps indicating they are too dear. After lusting after a griff or chimp for years I am shocked to read about PX prices of £9K. What would a dealer offer for an S3 4-5K?
check out my site and let me know if your interested i may sell mine

I am probably going to give a slightly biased opinion as I currently have one for sale at the upper end of the pricing you're talking about.
But...
I think it will always come down to 'you get what you pay for'. Dealers will aim to make between £1500-2000 from a car taken in part exchange as they will have to provide a warantee and may have to do some work before be able to sell the car on.
I have found that private sellers asking the higher price range will normally keep it there as the car has had a vast amount of work done on it to bring it up to the standard it is at.
The best way to compare the various cars available in different price brackets is to go and see them - I think it will soon become clear why there is such a disparity.
Just my two pence worth of course !

Basically take your time. The right car will come along if you are patient. It took me over 4 months to find the car I wanted. I viewed lots of cars until I found the right one and I wanted to buy every one of them! Somehow you just know the car that suits you. A bit like birds I suppose!

I paid £6600. Car has an S4 bonnett with flutes and is blue mica - one of the best colours. Has a full TVR main dealer history, but a service is now due. (66k ) Anyone used that place near cambridge called Offord or somthing like that - not too far from me.
Yet to use Offord myself yet but apparently everyone in the Cambs region swears *by* them as opposed to *at* them. Marshy'll tell ya. they advertise on here. Speak to Simon (I think).

Used them to Service/mot my 91 S3 for 3 yrs. They are very resonable priced and give a very good sevice,i believe most the Cambs lads use them and they sometimes attend TVRCC meets.
I'll be Taking my Griffith ther when it require its first service.
Simon Happy Tivin
Have took my Griff to Simon at Offord, for both service and the odd occasional things that need doing.
Have no hesitation in recommending them. They give a first class service, dam good value for money, and are very friendly and helpful. Go for it and save a few quid at the same time.
If you are near to them, why not also come along to the cambridge monthly meet, 1st Thursday each month.
