Hi,

Converting my car over to Megasquirt/EDIS ignition this winter.

I have a pre-serp, so need to retain the distributor (or ideally a bit of it!!), to drive the oil pump.

I have a distributor which I have disassembled, and am now stumped as to the best way to modify it.

Ideally I want to loose the majority of the top 'cup', leaving the shaft and obviously the cam gear and oil pump drive.

Examining the distributor, there is no kind of bearing in the mechanism at all. My idea was to cut off the 'cup' at either the red or green line on the photo below. Then cut and machine down the end of the shaft so that it will fit into a bearing. The end of the distributor housing would then be either tapped or threaded to accept a cap, securing everything in place.

Any ideas? I would love to see/hear of some examples that anyone else has tried.

Hi,

Found a guy who has performed the same modification to an engine he is using in a Cobra replica.

Thanks to Karl Tanner for providing the following:

It's a PDF covering the whole operation needed, thought someone might find it useful in the future.

Change the front cover to a P38 or intermediate type and go Serp with a crank driven pump? Think Ant might have done this...

I see where you're coming from, but I don't have PAS or Aircon, and my oil pressure is spot on. So sticking with the old style belt running the water pump and alternator is the cheaper way to go.
