I suspect that this will have it's highest ever viewing figure tonight, although the majority of people I suspect will be watching and hoping for a big punch up....

True " car crash tv!"

imho this is brave but positive from the beeb.

one way to look at this is that is demonstrates a level of tolerance of political views across the spectrum - albeit controvertial.

How can a supposedly impartial BBC not occassionally invite representatives from minority parties?

BNP holds council seats and is a british political party - and no I don't support them.

I support the notion that the beeb has risen above the overt political stance of the BNP and is doing something the BNP themselves cannot do - show adequate tolerance of minorities.

I'd be more annoyed if they asked Piers Morgan on in all honesty.

I agree... I also do not support them, my only concern is that they might be able to provide a convincing argument and boost their numbers (as Jean Marie La Penn did in France)

possibly, given the current state of flux in british politics, and by that I mean the dominance of the middle ground.

election on the way, could be an opportnity for Griffin to put his voice out there. His pitch will be key, will he moderate in an attempt to woo the undecided or will he stick to his "principles" in an attempt to put the other parties into further perspective of moderation and indecision?

Everyone has a right to speak, no matter how retarded the stuff they say is.
I'm watching it for the lulz.

If people of free mind and free will decide to vote for them, they are entitled to do so.

Whilst it is a shame that people may now support the BNP, I rather think that NU Laba are as much to blame as anything else for the increase in support for such people as the BNP.

BNP will never get in. There's no need to worry.
As long as everyone else doesn't go spastic at them and make themselves look silly (Therefore making the BNP look less silly) then we'll be fine.

The worst outcome I can think of is the other parties twisting their words and making st up. That's going to work in the BNP's favour.

Don't the BNP have something around 0.5% of the british vote? Why does anyone even care about them? Even if they get 10 times their current votes they still wont stand a chance.

It's a real shame that even 0.5% of the voters feel so dissatisfied and unrepresented in this country that they feel they need to vote for the BNP.

I don't think you can say they're all stupid racists.

They're only going to get more support as the economy goes down the toilet and unemployment rises.

The problem is that the other parties do appear to have been going spastic over this - someone from labour was saying this morning that they shouldn't be allowed to air their views.

I'm sure that this was discussed on question time last week - the sensible view was taken that they should be taken on in a head-to-head argument and discredited by those means.

We're a democratic country, and unless the BNP partake in blatantly illegal acts, they should be allowed to air their views, however unsavoury they may be to most of us.

IMO BNP will come out of this very well.....on any subject other than race they will have a lot of support (and even on race ish issues, like immigration, they will do ok) Also worth remembering that a lot of white people in the UK over a certain age are not too fussed if someone is that racist.

I work with a lot of older people (very well off, and people you would think very respectable) yet they use terms like " in the wood pile", , golly etc, etc as part of everyday language....are they racist - no, not IMO but they do lack a level of concern for people where race is an issue.....and it will let them put race issues aside if they hear common sense on the army, immigration, iraq, europe, etc

I wouldn't want to be up against them on tv tonight....anyone think they can get away with "you're a nasty racist" may find the debate doesn't go their way!

He was interviewed on Radio 4 the other day, despite the presenters attempts to make him sound like a nutter he did come accross well.

basically because the presenter was putting words in hisd mouth so it just sounded like an attack which he was able to put down very easily.

there needs to be some heavy weight opposition in there not just teh usual school boy " youre a racist" argument other wise he will come off well again.

I've got no time for the BNP, lets make that clear.

but....

Yes Racism is abhorrent but that doesn't mean we should sweep it under the carpet. If the BNP do manage to make a convincing argument (which a severly doubt they will) then somebody else needs to engage them and show they are wrong.

What I really hope is that it doesn't descend into idiotic shouting/heckling and ridiculous arguments that will give the BNP more ground and make them look like the sensible ones.

At least they are not afraid to tackle the immigration problems that the other parties cr*p themselves over for fear of being called racist.Would they have sent us into a pointless conflict and perceived war against the Muslim world..i don't think so.
Let's see how he conducts himself later this evening before judging.
