Sticky Clutch Pedal - Help
Discussion
Morning chaps,
Over the last couple of weeks my clutch pedal has started to get a bit sticky. It is slow to return to position from the bottom of it's movement... it's got to the point now that sometimes I need to flick it back up with the top of my foot. The clutch itself (Bite etc) seems fine, if you know what I mean.
When I stick it in neutral and pump the clutch I can hear a squeeking / creaking noise.
I had it in my local independant earlier this week having the MAF replaced, but (sod's law) I couldn't replicate the clutch issue.
Any idea's... before I have to take it in to VW at £85 plus VAT per hour (gulp)
Cheers,
Ben

Hello mate i'm afraid it sounds like your pedal box might of broken.
The welds that hold on the clutch bracket tend to shear off.
This is very common on Vw polos Golfs and Seats basically all the vw brand.
The delears will never admit that there is a problem but if you search the net you will find that it is a common problem. Seatcupra.net is a good one.
Is your clutch pedal level with the brake pedal?
The squeeking / creaking noise is a sure sign that it is on the way out.
It needs to be fixed otherwise it will leave you stranded when it goes.
Iv,e done loads and if you are handy with spanners you will be ok.
It is an awkward job to do as you need to remove the pedal box and weld the bracket with a support back on and so it will not go again.

Thanks for your reply.. I have heard of this issues on Mk4's but didn't know Mk5's also suffered. I doesn't seem like it's a pedal issue though... I'm guessing on a slave/master cylinder (hydraulics) problem. Got it booked in for a check-up next Wednesday, so fingers crossed !
