Quark quandry - any advice?
Discussion
I have a strange problem with Quark XPress (v 4.1 for Windows). Suddenly I cannot see JPEG files in picture boxes, and checking "Usage" says they're "the wrong type" and now being interpreted as PICT files. All this has happened since I upgraded to Photoshop 7. Images created in older versions of Photoshop still work fine, but despite checking and comparing, I can't find any difference between these older files and the new ones that won't work. Any suggestions?
When you go into the 'Save As' dialogue in Photoshop and select JPEG and click 'Save' the next box that comes up give you a few JPEG format options.
I think there is a Quicktime JPEG format, a JPEG 2000 format and a JPEG (6 or Photoshop) format.
Try these different settings.
Also you could try ensuring it is not a 'progressive' JPEG.
Other than that I would recommend working with TIFFs as they seem to render faster in Quark that JPEGs and they seem to be easier to handle JPEGs.

I'll double check on the JPEG formats, but don't think that's my problem.
I only use JPEGs for proofing through the colour inkjet, since they seem to give truer colour reproduction than TIFFs. When I finalise the document for repro I always substitute all images with CMYK TIFF format for just the reasons you suggest.
Thanks for the advice.
