I'm going to qualify things here.

It has been custom to have the right to bear arms and this is a traditional object. Remember, it can be extremly harsh in the wilderness in the Middle East.

However, thanks to a minority it has, incorrectly, portrayed the majority rather badly.

I think what was striking for me was the obvious limited boundaries the guys who did the display have. It probably never crossed their minds that it would seem odd to others from outside the region, myself included.
