God I'm a soppy old git. That brought a tear to my eye. Always love a ship launch. Something really special - especially if you get to know the ship when she enters service.

And what a ship. The Type 45 is a really impressive machine.

Lets hope she has a long and peaceful service life under the white ensign. And if it can't be peaceful may it always be victorous.

Always loved the look of the new Type 45.

I just hope we have the balls to build the Queen Liz Class carriers.
The mental image of 45's, both QE's, both Albion's, Ocean and surfaced Astute subs in close formation just made me very proud to be British.

NOW BUILD THE DAMN CARRIERS!

I agree entirely, but unfortunately we're a bit brassic at the moment, and defence/war is out of fashion.

I hope we can afford the carriers because we have started to build them already.

Did this type 45 hit the other bank of the clyde or have they solved this little problem. 2 in the past have hit the other side and been pulled straight back in to the shed to be fixed before they sank.

It'd had better be peacefull for at least the next year or two, they're not going to have PAAMS until 2011 which leave it with a 4.5" gun and a couple of Phalanx. Not even sure they've got the Phalanx fitted though as I believe the plan is to reuse the ones from Type 42.

Beautiful looking ship though.

Silly question but will she have been in the water before prior to the ceremonial launch? She looked very clean, even below the water line.

Shame the Navy lost out to the MOD on the main missile system.

If the Navy had gone with it's choice, the missile system would likely be active today (they have been for 30+ years in any number of ships around the world), with a full blown land attack, anti-TBM and [just about] anti-satellite capability.

Should have gone with goalkeeper IMHO, but it all costs I suppose.

I'd be interested to see a radar signature comparison of the T45 vs T42, to see how effective the elimination or vertical surfaces and right angles has been.

Agree on the looks though.

What did they want on there originally then? The American SM2/6?
