Living in North London at the moment, but don't really know anyone there, it's miles from work, and miles from my daughter, so have decided to move next year.

Baby daughter is in Wokingham, most of my work is in West London (Chiswick at the mo) so it makes sense to move between the two. Fed up of driving for hours upon hours every week either to or from work and to or from visiting Sofie.

I have a mate who lives in Egham, seems to have a nice friendly atmosphere, no trouble, good pubs, good location. Got Windsor just up the road, Virginia Water, Ascot, Runnymead and Thorpe Park in spitting distance. Good train links into London, close to M4, M3 & M25.

Anyone on here live there, or have an opinions of the place, good or bad?

I live on the outskirts of Egham (well for the last couple of years). It's not a bad place, some good pubs, a few shops (Staines has more shops and isn't too far away). Very close to M25, and not too far from M3 & M4.
My only problem is that the planes can be a bit irritating, when they are taking off to the west.
Let me know if you have any specific questions, either here or via PM.

My abiding memories of the town as it was some 15 years ago include racism (one pub in particular was a no-go area for ethnic minorities) and reports of casual violence, particularly against students. I'm sure things on both scores have since improved.

I also recall enjoying midnight swims at Virginia Water and the sound of screaming V12s on weekend nightssmile

My mate lives in Egham while at Uni. I happen to be visiting for her 21st on Saturday so I'll post back my impressions of the place... this will probably include the first couple of pubs and then not much else!

I live in Ashford just up the road, my daughter goes to college in Egham and I used to work there. Eghams a great town, Englefield Green up the hills nicer but more money as is Thorpe and Virginia Water. Good rail and road links too.

My girlfriend lives there at the moment and we find it far far too studenty (and we only graduated last year!). I suppose some areas remain unaffected but she currently lives in a very large new build estate that is literally full of students, despite being told by the landlord that it's 98% families rolleyes

Dan - I'd move up the A30 a little further, and consider Ascot, Bagshot, etc, etc.

I worked in Egham for 7 years. I personally would not want to live there.
Its got one of those awful 70's concreate high streets with a constant stream of rubbish shops (charity, card shops, Iceland etc)
Its full of students and dole scrougers.

I'd definitely opt for one of the surrounding towns instead (probably Windsor)

Dan, not sure how close you want to live to Wokingham but there are some nice areas nearer than Egham. Twyford and surrounding area is nice with quick access to the M4 and fast rail links in to Paddington.
Good pubs and a plentiful supply of Indian restaurants as well.
