Being a passenger in a jet?

Don't know I'm afraid. But I've sat in the cockpit of a 747 for take-off and landing and it's probably in the top 10 experiences of my life. Absolutely fantastic experience.

The Breitling Fighters sometimes offer a seat in charity auctions. Did it once. Amazing.

A place at blackpool airport used to give rides in a jet provost, don't know if they still do but I think that is the closest you would get in this country. Also if I remember right it was by no means cheap I think it was about £500 for 30 minutes.

that would be pretty cheap I think. Thunder city in SA do 50 minutes in the lightning for $10,000, even things like the hunter are about $5000 for 45-60 mins

I would regard that as pretty cheap as both of those drink JP1 like Ollie Reed and Georgie Best having a race...

Indeed, I should have been a bit clearer. A Tornado or a Mig that type of thing. I used to live below an airline pilot who took me out in his stunt plane which was excellent but it is a life ambition to go in a fighter jet.

I don't think that there is anywhere in the UK where you will be able to get a ride in a high performance fighter aircraft. There are very few on the civil register and the CAA are extremely cautious about allowing civilian opeerators to carry passengers.

You really have to look abroad. In South Africa you can have a trip in a two seat Lightning or a Buccaneer and some of the ex-Soviet bloc air forces do take passengers in MiGs and Sukhois.

None of these commercial operations are cheap.

Join the RAF and see if you get lucky. My wife got a flight in a Tornado when she was at Conningsby and a Sqn mate got a flight in a Harrier at Laarbruch (Stn Cmdrs last flight).

I had a ride in an L29 albatross many years ago (10+) as part of a breitling corporate day. No idea if it is still possible, or if you can just pay for it.

Flown in a Hawk, got to barrel roll the thing, did some high-g turns and then the main man took over and showed me what it could do. 1000-12000 ft in a matter of seconds. Quite literally loopy!

If you are young enough then join the RAF. If you have kids who are into aircraft, see if they fancy the ATC, I know cadets who have had Jollies in fast jets.

Yes if you have a mate with a PPL who has a share in a Jet Provost

Any particular reason why it has to be a jet? If you are just looking to play at fighter pilots and want to do some pretend dogfighting then you won't go far wrong with a day out at Ultimate High.

I guess it's the sense of absolute speed, plus I have always been fascinated by fighter aircraft.

Also, for medical reasons I can't drive for 333 days all being well (not that I'm counting) and I usually satisfy my need to go quickly on trackdays or in my Ferrari.

I had to let it go as the thought of having it in the garage for a year untouched was a bit criminal, not to say bad for it and my OH won't go near it!

So, anything I have never done but always wanted to I figure now is the time and it will go some way to occupying me!

To be honest mate if I was you I'd go for a dogfight/aerobatic experience in some sort of turboprop. You will get a similar experience, g forces, exhilaration etc. Flying in a 'fighter' isn't all "oh my god this is amazingly fast". You are aware of going at speed but being enclosed in the cockpit and with the helmet and built in mic/ear protection there is little engine roar. Saying that it isn't somethig you will forget in a while either.

If you after something exciting, find your local dz and do a level one AFF skydive. Now there's a speed rush!
