A6 2.0tdi hesitation in first gear (Tame Technician help?)
Discussion
Just bought a 56 plate A6 2.0 tdi as a replacement for my Passat with the same engine. I have found it runs fine, apart from in first gear (manual box) when setting off. If you try to set off quickly you can press the pedal quite a way down and nothing seems to happen, then it starts accelerating as normal. It feels as though there is a massive flatspot.
I'd be grateful if anyone has any ideas as it only does this in first gear, which seems very strange.
Cheers.

We get lots of complaints about that A4 and A6 2.0TDI manuals. Was caused by a software update to stop customers blowing up clutches and flywheels. I forget the number but I could find out. Was factory standard 2007 Model Year onwards. When The new cars started coming like like, we were all stalling them until we got used to it.
If teh car had teh update, rather than coming from the factory that way, I think it can be removed. Ask your Audi centre nicely. But if it was a 2007 on vehicle that came like that, then I'm afraid that just how they are now.
The software update when we did it included the text, engine performance on full throttle is unaltered. SO if you want to pull away faster you need to floor it.

Cheers TT, it has put my mind at rest that there's nothing 'wrong' with it. Chances are it will get remapped anyway which should get rid of that 'update'. My Passat had the same engine and was infinitely better in first; as it is, it's just dangerous - either that or you have to rag it to get going quickly.

OPs car is probably a 2007 Model Year I would guess if its on a 56-plate.If teh car had teh update, rather than coming from the factory that way, I think it can be removed. Ask your Audi centre nicely. But if it was a 2007 on vehicle that came like that, then I'm afraid that just how they are now.

Out of interest, was the same 'update' done to any other VAG cars?
