I've got a new Griff 500. Just had its first service and one of the things I wanted checked out was the occasional smell of petrol fumes I'm getting. Dealer checked it for leaks and said they rerouted the breather pipe but can't find any problems. I can't see any leaks either. I think its coming from the fuel tank end rather than the engine compartment because when I turn my head round to reverse I'm more aware of the smell as you drive backwards. As I say, the smell isn't there all them time, mainly when I'm stuck in traffic. Can't smell it at all when driving normally.
I've not had a convertible before. Is it normal?
Appreciate comments from anyone else who's experienced this.

Get someone to check out the purge tank return pipe at the front end of the car, as TVR run it right pass the manifold, due to the heat it can become pourus (where is the spell check)at this point, only know this by experience of my own car, wether my pipe was routed incorrectly I dont know, but it's worth looking at just behind nearside front wheel on top chassis member.

I agree with the advice. I've never smelt petrol inside mine, apart from one or two occasions when I have filled up and have been less than careful with drips from the pump.

Incidentally, did you enjoy the drive back from the service?

Also check the gasket on the tank which seals the hole for the fuel gauge sender. |It may have been overtightened and squashed the rubber washer, so fumes may be leaking out.

Thanks for the tips. Checked as best I can but can't see any splits or suspect gaskets etc. I'll give it a week or two to see if it gets any worse and I suppose it'll be back to the dealer. I'll get him to check out my suspect window lifters at the same time!

Angus, how's your respray?

If it's simply a metter of them being extremely slow and ponderous in operation, I'm afraid they all do that!

Very embarrasing, thundering impressively up to tolls booths etc, then waiting nearly a minute for the window to chug down.

My windows seem to go up and down faster and quieter when they've been polished inside and out. But, they're still slow compared with most cars.

My rpoblem with the windows is having had window lifters fitted as an aftermarket add-on they've taken to blowing the fuse occasionally. Will work fine for a while then something causes the fuse to blow. Still, not to worry, somehow you sort of get used to these little niggles.
