Targa Panels

Been reading one of the other threads where this advert was mentioned - http://pistonheads.co.uk/sales/1309486.htm

I have a couple of questions regarding the panels - i have a 04 plate too, but my panels are different.

(1) My panels are fixed at the front and the rear. From pic #4 this car has them along the sides. Why the change?

(2) Ad mentions that the car has carbon targa roof (extra £2000). Maybe this is why they mount differently? Though my panels have a CF finish on the inside - not sure that they are proper CF though.

Just curious what fitting/finish other 'T' car owners have?

My panels have a mount at the rear and a mount on the right hand side (towards the front). I know they did update the mounts at some point, but I'm not sure if I have the earlier or later. Mine is an 04 also.

CF in the inside too, I assumed all CF.

Earlier targas had clips each side, and whistled badly due to the front lifting at speed. Later targas had clips front and rear instead. While every TVR is different the later design should work well. Mine are silent to well over 100mph. If a car has a combination of these then I expect it has been tweaked at some point.

At build, owners could specify whether to have the targa panels painted or left unpainted (but laquered I guess). This is the 'carbon' look. The physical panel is the same. All Targa models list price was £2000 more than Coupe models.

Edited to say: Note that the car linked in this thread is not listed as having aircon - so not 'every option' as it is described.

I was about to write exactly this but Targa saved me a job.

The roof panels are carbon fibre and were a 2k option over the coupe. Looks like he opted for them unpainted - only seen this once on a Halycon Midas 350 and it looked very good as a contrast to the bright yellow. Not too sure about it on the blue though!

Which year did they stop ?

Mine are fixed at the back and not the front and whistle like a bd at anything over 80.

Which year did they stop ?

The change between fitting types was end 2003/start 2004. However, later cars can still whistle if the panels are not fitted carefully.
