angel eyes lights on 7 series
Discussion
hi people. i just wanted to know. i have a bmw 7 series on a 2007 plate. why do some bmw's you see with angel eyes have blue rings and some have orange/yellows rings? my 7 has the orange/yellow ones but i think the blue ones look really nice and stand out. please let me know your thoughts.
Hi,
The rings are normally a yellowy/white colour as factory standard - they use a 10 watt halogen bulb. The coloured ones you see are replacement LED bulbs available in bluish white, white, etc.
You can purchase direct replacements that just take a few seconds to swap over to give you the look you require for about £40.00, although you must ensure they come with a resistor fitted, otherwise you will get a bulb warning failure on the dash. I think you can get a good set from Autobulbs Direct. I swapped them over on my E39 535 and they do look much better than the rather dim yellow originals.
Sometimes you see older models (E36 3 series in particular) with aftermarket Angel Eyes and some are cold cathode (CCFL) kits that are extreme white. However you only need to replace the bulbs with LED versions as you already have the rings fitted on your car..

Different models use different types of bulbs for the angel eye component. I know my E90 takes a very different yellower (and less bright) bulb to that found in the E92, which can be used as driving lights.
May well be another different fitment in the 1 series, although I have never seen a 1 with blueish angel eyes.
