...When someone posts a topic and the first reply(sometimes the second or third 
) says "this topic has been done to death"..
Why bother responding? If it's not a valid topic, it will slide away into the history pages. But it does make me laugh when such a comment is made and then a week later 6 pages on, the topic's still going stong.
Or better still, after the "it's been done to death" comment, they then go on to make a lengthy reply to the OP's topic. Cracks me up every time this, this one.
And lastly, when a topic goes slightly off topic and then there's comments like "this thread is bizarre"(I read this a few days ago). Bizarre that when a few people start talking that a conversation doesn't always stay on one topic? Cracks me up again..
I could go on, but that's enough,

When you've been here more than 2 months, you may find that people dragging up the same topic once a fortnight becomes wearing.) says "this topic has been done to death"..Not that they're not valid topics, but if people would take the trouble to use the 'search' function, they could avoid wasting everyone's time by covering the same ground for the 65th time before reaching the one little bit of information or opinon that might actually contribute something to the debate.

As Sam says above, when you've been a while you do get fed up of the duplication of topics.
Generally speaking what you'll find is that when the subject is first raised you get the best, most qualified responses. But as subjects become duplicated, you get less and less qualified responses.
I don't think people bother to respond anymore .... If someone can't be arsed to search, then I can't be arsed to respond

Perhaps people recognise that the topic is valid and interesting, but wish to encourage people to keep all the debate in one place, hence avoid the need to cover old ground with monotonous regularity?Add to the fact if the forum has loads of repeating threads, people will turn away (most people aren't interested in discussing the same issues all the tim) and the forum/community will be worse off for it.
I'm not saying that you should have to search for every thread one creates but a bit of common sense would make it obvious that a thread about "what is your favourite car" or "what is the coolest car" would have been done many times before, just find the old thread and add to it.
