Licence expired - allowed on at Bedford & Rockingham?
Discussion
I'm looking to book a few track days over the coming weeks at Rockingham and Bedford.
Problem is my driving licence (photo) expires in the next few days and due to a house move delaying the DVLA notification and the postal strike I'm not going to get my new licence in time.
I've got my current licence to show, but it'll be out of date by a week give or take a few days. I've also got a photocopy of the completed renewal form I've sent.
I've tried the organisers (BAT & MSV) but can't get hold of anyone and there's only a few places left so I need to book ASAP.
Cheers

I've always had mine checked when signing on, although I don't know how carefully they look at things like the date. I've been to a corporate day at Bedford (driving their cars not mine) and forgot my licence. I thought they wouldn't let me on, but they had some standby arrangement where you fill in indemnity forms etc etc, but that was direct with the circuit and wasn't a normal track-day. Definitely recommend you speak to them - e-mail better as you'll get the answer in writing.....
You should be able to ask the chaps at sign on if they would call dvla to check out your licence details. There may be a small charge for this but it is easy enough to do.
When we have done this in the past the charge went to the Marshall fund for there Christmas party
May also be a good idea to take some other photo Id along with you.
The link is the contact details you will need for DVLA.

Unfortunately you will not get away with it at MSV run circuits - they insist on seeing the original paper licence & photocard on weekends. Midweek, they can call the DVLA to confirm a licence is still valid.
Other circuits don't insist on licences being present at signon - so Rockingham will be your winner there

I'd have thought your bigger problem is if your licence has expired ( im assuming its the photocard bit) how are your going to get to the circuit, as technically if they photcard has expired you dont have a licence to drive on the road... get stopped on the road and you'll get done for no valid licence and hence no insurance..
Forget the track day and driving on the road and get your licence sorted !!!!!

My licence should have been reissued - but I may not have received it due to postal strikes.Forget the track day and driving on the road and get your licence sorted !!!!!
I trailer my car to track anyway and go with a friend who can drive so no problem there either.

No worries, I'd double double check with dvla that its been recieved and issued though. I know of a chap that got done for the very thing... His photocard expired, sent it off and forgot all about it.. Gets run into at some traffic lights. his licence comes up as expired, dvla have no record of him renewing. He gets taken away in cuffs. charged with no licence or insurance.. to make things worse the car that hit him was stolen so also uninsured... so chap now has smashed up car, big fine, banned from driving and very expensive insurance if he can get it when ban runs out. If i told you what the scrote that hit him got your piss would go supernova...

If you still have the paper bit it's no problem.
I don't have a photocard license & so they only ever see the paper bit.
It does for road use... the photo card validateds the paper bit, and without a valid photocard ( once one has been issued) you have no licence..I don't have a photocard license & so they only ever see the paper bit.
As for a track day I expect they would want to see both parts of a modern licence as the paper bit doesnt show the categories, they are on the photocard... so it could just be a moped licence without the photcard !!!

Learn something new everyday, I'd assumed paper licenses were the same with or without photocards.....G
