After months and months of eager anticipation and endless waiting for possibly the coolest driving game of all time, two days ago my fking stebox 360 packs up for the second time in 18 months. Fully fledged ring of death not six months since it was last repaired.

Bet it won't be a freebie repair this time either.

Gutted......totally gutted.

Guess I'll just have to sit and look at all your pretty pictures and wish!

If it wasn't for Forza 3 I genuinely don't think I'd bother getting it fixed this time. Got no faith in the piece of crap any more.

Even once its been fixed it'll be a case of when not if it happens again.

If it is out of warranty then just take it apart and re-apply some heatsink gel. There are loads of documents on the web and it is a fairly easy process.
I got fed up with the stupid Red Ring of Death (and more importantly the stupid fan noise) that I bought a Lian Li PC-XB01 case and fitted 2 Noctua NH-U9D0 heatsinks and fans. It now runs silent and no problems with ROD cool, but this is probably a bit extreme.

The Sega is an old console, from back in the days when consoles didn't break and cost a heap to fix.

HTH.

You can try the towel trick for the time being if you just want to play for a while longer.

Get two thick bath towels, turn console on, wrap it up tight (if it shuts down, turn it back on again), leave it for around 20 mins to half hour, unwrap, turn off, leave it for an hour to cool, then see if it boots again. This basically heats up and 'reflows' the dodgy solder on the motherboard, although it's a temp fix.You may get another day out of it, a few hours, or even a couple of weeks.

Things like that really depend on how far gone the console is to be honest. It's not always a perm fix.I have two dead ones here as proof frown

Arrrrrgh......Error code E 74 here too just as the title credits are rolling for the 1st time on FM3.
Pissed off is an under-estimate but as it`s a used console from Gamestation it has a years cover so I`ll bag a unit swap tommorrow or monday with any luck.

I certainly feel your pain. After a horrible experience when M$ refused to reapir my first console saying I had tampered with it, I decided to take the plunge for Forza 3. This is where it got me:

Yeah baby!
Got me one of the very first Xbox 360 Super Elites in the country!

Look at it, all sexy, boxed up there with Forza 3 ready to go!

Lets unpack the little beauty and see what we find:

Woo Hoo! It's even a Falcon Core. Smaller PSU and 12.1 Amp power rating confirm it. Manufacture date is 25/08/2009 if that bothers you....

Side by side, old and new. Not much to see apart from the Speshul Edishun 250Gb Hard Disc Drive.

Of course, these two consoles are the same in one very important respect:

NURSE!

I genuinely  'd
That's what you get for crawling back to Microsoft with £250 in your sweaty palm

That is really bad, I'd be having a fit if it was mine.

Yup. It powered up once, RROD'd on the second switch on. Never even opened the wrapper on Forza 3.

Mug that I am, I swapped it for another. Forza 3 is great though, and I am Bill's bh.

I might regret saying this but.....

Ive got a repaired xbox sat next to me doing nothing as i went out and bought a newer one, its got all the cables etc, even a wireless controller.

Id be happy to box it up and lend it to someone until they got theirs fixed/a new one, if they paid for the postage there and back, which shouldnt be too much. Hell if you live nearish harrogate i could even drop it round.

Checked the delivery note on the box they shipped it back to me in last time they repaired it, yes I kept it, figured I'd use it to send it back next time it broke, (hows that for confidence?) It only got posted back to me on April 27th this year, so it packed up at 11 months old, was fitted with a new mother board and hasn't managed a further 6 months since!!!!

Absolute rubbish, I'll be giving them a call tomorrow and if they want a single penny off me its going in the bin!

Swapped my machine that had an Error 74 today...no problems exchanging for another unit from Gamestation & it`s (so far) working well...fingers crossed.

Hope all the machines on the thread get up & running or swapped again soon.

It's true. I read the thread title and thought RROD... I wasn't surprised.

Forza must be good for so many of you to put up with this crap... then again, I still run Windoze and that's as bad as it ever was too.
