rv8 water pump, not pumping!!!!!!! HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!
Discussion
contary to my previous post i'm not now sure its the rad at fault, as my water pump doesnt appear to be pumping.
I removed the old water pump, and got a replacement from jrv8 and it is exactly the same???? If i connect it all up the and run for 5-10 mins the temp guage just rises, the block gets hot but all of the pipes and the rad stay cold, appart from abit of heat trunsfur through the water. then when it gets just over 100 degrees i turned it off!
I have also tried another random rad I have lying about but same outcome.
I disconnected the pipes, extended both hoses and stuck them both in water to see if it pumped anything? nothing
so I tried pouring water down the top hose with the engine running, thinking it would pump it back at me, still nowt!!!
I am now stuck for ideas, this car is driving me mad now as nothing just bolts on and works!!!!!!
Any help much apprecaited!!!!

What are the symptoms?
I had problems with air locks in mine. I now have an air bleeds on the top of my radiator and on the top hose coming out of the inlet manifold and they run to the top of my header tank. I also had to put a couple of small holes in the thermostat to get the air out of there.

yea it stays cool for a while then the temp jumps up within afew minutes at idle, I guess because no water is circulating. There is no pressure in the top hose and it feels empty.
I think the pump is going the right way, I dont see how it could go any othet tbh. The guy I got the engine off had it running in a car before me so i just put it in same as.
I will try and dig a pic off my engine out as not sure what front cover it is, it takes a range rover shape pump.
I thought about air locks but i really dont think thats the prob????

I think what you might need is an air bleed where the arrow is if there isn't one already.

Edited to add the water level in your header tank should be above the highest part of that pipe, and anywhere that there is water moving about really. I actually retrofitted mine so it's certainly possbile. I'll see if I can find where I got it from.

Here we go. It's a bit pikey but it worked for me.

ah ok. Thinking about it I suppose the header tank probably is a bit lower than the top hose, I will thus try the 'pikey' method lol.
Also i have a loop of hose between the heater pipes as i have chucked the heater, (power to weight and all that) but the hose i have used goes up a bit so that could be holding ait in it I guess!
I'll let you know how I get on, ta!
