PS3 for Blueray or standalone
Discussion
OK I've decided to keep my 360 but will be getting a Blueray player for Crimbo in some shape or form.
So for the questions :
1) PS3 or Standalone ?
2) Do I buy either now or wait until closer to Christmas will their be better deals ?
3) Are their any standalone players due around Christmas that are worth waiting for if I dont go for a PS3 ?
TA !

If you are just after a BLURAY player then I'd go stand alone. I used my PS3 for Blurays for about 9 months and then bought a Panasonic player for about £130. The picture and sound quality on the stand alone player is much better.
If you are not planning on playing games, or using the other features, then you will get an equal, if not better, stand alone player for substancially less money.

I researched it and found out that the PS3 is pretty much the best bluray player for the money, and the major benefit of the PS3 is that the bluray player is upgradeable through the internet connection. You need to have a lot of money spent on a standalone to have that feature.
I got mine from gameplay for £230 with free courier next day delivery.

Bert, that may have been the case in the past, but it isn't anymore. My stand-alone player allows internet firmware updates. Most new players have wifi capability built in. Some are even offering the ability to stream directly from the web.I got mine from gameplay for £230 with free courier next day delivery.
LG BD370 is around the £130 mark, has an ethernet port for firmware updates (and youtube streaming), apparently plays hi-def MKV files very well, can easily be made region-free for DVD, is relatively quick to start up and quieter than a PS3.
So it comes down to whether you think it's worth the £100 (plus a bit more if you want a proper remote) for another console. Are there PS3 exclusives that you're wanting to play? If not, I'd just get the standalone player and the change can pay for a couple of games or a few BD titles to watch...
