Forza3 guide for uninterested beginner

OK....got F3 from Tesco this morning and played a bit of the season stuff....now bored. How do i played live? When i go to the multiplayer thing it seems to take an age to find a game? (my only other live experience is COD4 which I can be playing live with others within seconds)

Also.....do i need to bother with the season stuff if i just want to race live? I dont want to paint and tune stuff (i'm a grown man with children!) i just want to turn the box on and be racing people for a laugh (like i used to do on PGR4)

Also...if i see PH in a private race is it ok to just join the session or is that poor etiquette?

The first few career races are a bit tedious. Do some of the quick races in Free play. Proper cars on real tracks.

But is there any point if i just want to join in online stuff? I mean....other than practice, what do i miss by just wainting for the online lobbies to fill (seems everyone is playing season stuff and painting their spokes right now!)

Yes... You need the cars and money.

Fairly quickly, the online games will become tough to win without the right car.

BTW, you can make the races far more challenging by changing the opposition to hard, or taking a less competitive car out.

Finally, you can hire a driver to do some of the tedious races. Still get some cash, but it doesn't increase your driver level. I'm doing that today. I've done the championship races, and let the hired driver do a few. (I agree, they do get a bit repetitive.)

I'm torn as to whether to buy this or not.

Even as an unemployed dole scummer I still think that this game will be a massive waste of time.

The fact that people are calling the season races 'tedious' is not filling me with excitment for the game.

I ended up buying a new elite with forza collectors edition today to replace my nicked 360 because of this game

Now need to wait for OH and child to melt away to bed to set it all up hehe

Actually, I quite like the way you have to go through a season, scheduling races in between championship events.

The ones I have got the hired driver to do are the numerous "Asia RWD, Asia 4dr mid engine, hatchback championship, hatchback 3dr with cig lighter" type races, of which there are rather alot!

Of course, but a tuned car will almost always give a standard one (even with the same PI) a big kicking.

The lobby can be locked to standard cars, and in fact I like doing this, it can be a good leveler.

In simple terms the career races are the way to go, they can feel tedious (believe me driving a F class for me is like watching paint dry!) but stick with them, the rewards are great.

HOWEVER, if all you want is to plug and play, then look out for the PH online races, at this stage (before we all get heavily into the tuning) many of the evening races will be 'stock' class cars. So if you see a PH lobby running, dive in (if there is space!) and enjoy.

Add a few of the regulars on your FR and see how you go, I think despite what you say you may get the bug badly and you may end up getting into it like the rest of us.

Guys got the game tonight myself, quick noobie question, should i bother upgrading my cars? atm i am 1% through the game and have 5 cars!! Seems you get one every 5 minutes! can i sell these cars or what?

ok...so do i have this right....

i play in the season play, try not to spend to much on upgrades and then pick a fav car and tune/upgrade that so i can use it when i play online? What do people do...just have a fav car in each category so they always have something whatever the online race is???

also - in season play....i keep having to spend money as it tells me my car is not competitive without upgrades?

Dear me, you do make feel like a chore. Sounds like you need to play a different game if you are not enjoying the single player and dont want to paint/ tunes your rides.

i just prefer racing real people...just feels so much more "real" than the "no mistake" pc cars....and i dont get the painting thing (i have 4 kids, 2 dogs, busy job....cant spend time painting cartoon cars on the TV!)

just had a couple of on line races and they were superb....i lost! but so much better than the season stuff with both of us making mistakes....so once you screw up it's still worth going after them because they could make an error (unlike the pc cars IME)

also - i'm trying to work out how to spend money in season play....do i blow cash on upgarding the best car i have for season play races or save it to tune for online? i dont want to waste it!

In my experience of racing games cash becomes fairly easy to come by. Don't worry too much about wasting it. I've played for less than 2 hours and have been given 5 cars and earnt in excess of 100k already. How about you use the season races to try out cars without the pressure of online races, and tweak settings to your liking?
Tuning and test driving can become part of the fun.
Always start with weight reduction and tyres IMO, and watch out for the 'performance index' as you can quickly tune cars above their intended class by mistake. You don't have to get massively in depth, slap suspension on a car and it generally handles ok out of the box. I wouldn't bother with the "auto upgrade" function I wasn't impressed with the choices it was making.

I've spent nothing on cars for season play. You win so many there is nearly always a race you can do with cars you've won. Save it....

The only thing I have spent so far is on a couple of cars for online class racing.

And the game has made that easy. Buy the car, buy the setup, then apply it and it fits the relevant parts automatically. Applying the set up in forza 2 would take ages, because fitting the parts could take a while.

That happened whilst my girlfriend was playing...

She'd had a mare of a race and had clawed it back to second, albeit with some dubious racing ethics , the computer car in first hit the last corner at about 30mph more than it could handle, trundled off the track for a bit of Paris Dakkar testing before rejoining the race behind my girlfriend...

She nearly didn't finish in first due to finding the fact that a racing game, with computer driven cars, could make mistakes like real people do utterly hilarious and giggling so hard.

Nonsense, played on line yesterday and it was superb. I just want to race people, not pc's and i dont need to colour in cars! (although i stuck a PH logo on a 207...so maybe i'm getting the bug )

Haha thats where it starts, im rubbish at painting... no patience and lack creativity but ive started putting a PH logo on everything i race in.
