A thread here got me browsing the Heuerboy website. A lot of the watches were on perforated leather straps... which got me thinking. I've got a limited edition Speedy (Schumacher 2000 white face) which is on a flimsy bracelet. It's the same type of shape as the Heuer Carrera and I reckon a perforated leather racing strap would give it a new lease of life - I rarely wear it at the moment...

I'm thinking the style here, not trying to emulate the watch, since the Schumacher Speedy is a collectible enough watch in its own right. But the bracelet doesn't really live up to the watch...

What does the forum think? And if Yes, where's the best place for decent perforated leather 'racing' straps or are they pretty much a generic item I can get from watchstyle / watchworx / etc.?

There is a place I found for these a while ago I'll try and dig out a link for you. vintage style racing straps cost about £100 but they do look very good.

for 'cheaper'
Di moddel do a nice one and fairly inexpensive. I have tried quite a few at the lower price range and ended up giving them away. the Di-moddel is the nicest of the cheaper types that I have found. I say cheap was around £22-25 IIRC

heres a couple of quick pics I took.

Cheeers Pesty - I think a proper one it'd have to be, so I'd appreciate the link. £100 is a bit stiff but I reckon it'd give the watch a much better look and I'd wear it more smile

If you want to "rehearse" the look first you could try buying a much cheaper one from watchworx.co.uk first, and you could even pick up a couple in different colours.

I think it'll look good actually, although I wonder if maybe a chocolate brown perf strap might suit the white face/stainless steel body better?

Pop into Goldsmiths, they sell Morellato straps for about £20 a go and are great quality.
Their 'Rallye' strap is great quality and comes in a few different colours.

Its similar in that it looks to have holes in it but not sure it would look right on the OPs watches.

quick pic of one of mine with one. nice strap but different effect to a normal rallye style

Nope, proper holey design it has to be. I've ordered this one:

with the cream stitching to go with the silver face of the watch. Hopefully it'll look OK, I reckon it will. Certainly bring down a bit of the blinginess of the bracelet. And it's nice quality as well, with suede on the inside, should be nice and comfortable.

I think the texture of that vintage strap will add a bit of class as well.

Should be perfect intrested to see the result.

the 4.5 mm is what caught my eye on these. most of these style straps are quite thin. I prefer a thicker strap.

Yes the suade seems a nice touch.

Try the official Tag Heuer replacements (that come on Carreras for example) if you want something of good quality; still they will be overpriced compared to many others.

Alain DeCadenet wears his old (pre moon, and battered to hell) Speedie pro on a green perforated strap held together with superglue and luck. He did tell me the story of why he can't bring himself to replace it, but I can't remember it. Anyway, it looks superb.

I had my Speedy Racing on a Timefactors Rally strap. Went back to the bracelet in the end although it does look good on both.

I've not heard of the Speedmaster Racing edition before. It looks really good - anything of note worth telling us about it - apart from the fact that it's a reduced date version of course?

It's Speedy Pro sized, but with an auto movement and sapphire crystal. The dial is carbon fibre which works rather nicely. In bright light and up close you can see the weave but from a distance it looks pretty much like a regular Speedy. I also like the red detailing on the hour markers; A modern take on the classic design.

From the Omega info:

Another option to consider might be the Hirsch Rallye - this has a series of circular cut outs down the length of the strap
