According to this report, there are multiple strikes either happening or planned to take place across the country in a wide variety of sectors.

Most of this is news to me and I just cannot believe that Labour have lost the plot so badly as to let this happen in the run up to the GE.

What are the Unions playing at? They will get their asses handed to them by the Tories next year if they cause major problems this winter?

They surely can't all be that stupid? Am I totally underestimating the never ending idiocy of these people? The Union leaders' jobs have to be ultimately on the line too??

I just hope it doesn't happen, for the country's sake, although I would find it hard not to raise a smile at another contribution to McMental's demise.

We have to hit rock bottom at some point, with recession still happening it's looking like this winter will be bad. Personally I think it's better to happen this year than next year when the new Conservative government is in power.

I have a feeling that the unions know that this is there last chance to bully Labour into giving them what they want before the Tories come along in May and severaly clamp down.

Highly likely, in my opinion - I've been saying it's coming for some time. Although, as I've also said, I think it'll make the Winter of Discontent look like Gay Pride in Camberwick Green.

I believe it's the last throw of the dice from the Unions before they desert Labour. The PLP is bankrupt, both morally and financially, and the death of Royal Mail will see the last bastion of militant unionism die.

I don't even think the Tories will need to face them down as, like the Miners, the Posties will literally strike themselves out of a job.

Also worth considering that Bin Collections etc are largely outsourced. Now whilst the Public Sector are pathetic at dealing with strike action, the Private sector is far less forgiving. So it'll be interesting to see if they do walk.
