How do they form? Where do they come from?

For example, I have had ther standard dreams about women that I find attractive, but more recently they have become more random..

Just a minute ago (if I don't say now I will forget) I dreamt that me and my brother and a party of random people were going to a part of the Thames where all the fish were dying, you could see them all floating on the surface, and everything was dead, fish, birds, the only thing that was there were flies.. From there we walked up the path a bit more and went into a house, where we were then breifed on Victorian etiquette by what I think is my great grandfather (only have pics of him), how to have your shoes shined, how to dress etc, and it just timewarped to early 1900's London, and I actually remembered some kid asking "ahine your boots 'guvnor"

Why is my head creating these things?

When you are asleep you literally lose control over your thoughts. Therefore random images and thoughts emerge from the recesses of your brain and become a jumbled mess of images and ideas. Our rational brain then tries to place some order and meaning on this jumble.

If you have been particularly worried about something, there is a good chance that these worries will manisfest themselves - often indirectly - when dreaming.

I don't know what I dreamed about last night, but I woke up in a very, er, turgid state.

Wasn't any other "mess" when you woke up was there?

I had the weirdest of dreams a few weeks ago.

I dreamt that my dad bought an ice blue SLR Mclaren, which had 4 seats, sounded like a 1.0L engine, and was manual.

Strange.

I hate those sorts of dreams.

I had a dream once that I had a lovely TVR... drove it to my friends house to show off, only to realise it was brown... then it broke down on the way home and bus full of people laughed at me. frown

(a dream that is reality for many a PHer I imagine!)

Freud said dreams were the "Royal route to the unconscious". Thoughts going on in your mind that you are unaware of manifest themselves in your dreams

I had an awful car related dream recently where I bought a pair of golf gti front seats, circa 1987, the slightly tartan ones, for 4000 quid, bought unseen over the phone from a stock broker. Weirdly I felt very enthusiastic about the purchase at the time. Then I remember the feeling later on in the dream of coming to my senses and thinking oh st what have I done?!

I've been having this recurring car dream for years; first I can't remember where I've parked it and wander around for ages, then when eventually locate it, it's only about two feet long and I have to stick my hands and feet in through the open windows to drive it.

Another I have quite often involves being back at school for some reason - and I'm always unprepared in some way. Homework not done, no idea which lesson is next, can't find the right room etc.

Here's my strange dream from recently;

I was searching for the worlds greatest chinese takeaway. (dont ask why, i dont know!)

I found myself in the loading bay of Marks & Spencer where i had to remove 4 large cardboard boxes to find a trapdoor. After climbing into said trapdoor and down a small tunnel i found a lift, i had to take the lift and travel down 4 levels below the loading bay. I then got out of the lift and had to walk down a corridor full of doors (like in the 3rd Matrix movie) I had to choose the correct door.

I opened a door and inside was a chinese takeaway which was run by a guy who ran a takeaway we used to go to about 10 years ago (and havent seen since)

He said " Ah welcome David, you have found us at last. Please come in"

Wierd.

Which is what my wife and daughter called me when i told them. silly
