Should be do-able you can get adapter housings for Alfa 1700 to Beetle box and WRX to Beetle box (check out the outlaw warrior four series if that floats your boat) How about a 1700 boxer for a WRX turbo?

Discuss.

P.S the 280bhp off the shelf (up to 600bhp on a standard crank) 2.5 Legacy would be better (that's why the WRX boys always swap blocks for big power Imp's) but I think room would be an issue.

Not sure how it would fit into a GTV or a 75, but I believe it has been done to a 33 somewhere. Personally i don't see the point - either tune the orginal sud/33 boxer engine or just buy a scooby in the first place....

Replacing the engine in an Alfa for another make just doesn't seem right to me - the engines are the best bits!

I know what you mean I've had a fair bit of critisism in the pub about it, but the trouble is you have to spend quite a bit of money to get the sort of power from the Alfa engine that the Subaru come out the factory with and then it's just a matter of time before there's a something went pop, blue smoke, oil slick, arnco moment. WRX Wagon sold on the bay last night for £324.05 and there's a stripped out track day 33 on there for about £150 at the moment. Pity I haven't got any room. frown

My 33 was nuts with a standard 1.7 engine.

Upsetting the handling with a scooby unit seems silly. Unless you do it like that Dutch bloke (if memory serves correctly) who chopped a section out of a 164 3.0V6 and welded a 33 bodyshell back over the top. 164 chassis and suspension (and hence up to the task) and looked like a standard 33 albeit with wide wheels for a 33 smile
