Riding with my kids
Discussion
I was out with My nine year old son today for a big off-road ride,
He said he loved it, he followed me down a fairly challenging old singletrack, then a off track. I was amazed he took it all in his stride, I was so proud, He said it was fun but if he knew what was coming he would have been a bit scared, and was amazed when he walked back up it, that he had done it. then he did it again.
I was no where near as brave or as naturally skilled as him when I was his age.
His Brother who is 5, leaned to ride his bike in about an hour, and has got great balance, but has not mastered brakes, so no off-road for him yet.

My daughter was 4 on Friday and as she was a whizz on the balance we got her a 'proper' bike (a very pink Ridgeback with matching Giro helmet and Polaris mitts!). Took her out before breakfast and she rode it right away so spent all weekend whizzing around the local parks.
She had such a great time and kept telling me she couldn't wait to come out riding with me!!
Love it - not sure she'll be coming out on my Sunday morning off road thrash any time soon, but can envisage some fun times ahead.

Son number 1 is 16 months old and son number 2 is 2 weeks old and I'm sooo looking forward to taking them on their first ride - a nice trip round Llandegla. I think I could have to wait a few years though.
Get your 2 year old a balance bike it makes the transition to pedals so much easier. My eldest used one from around 2 years old, he picked up a friends bike when he was 3 jumped on and off he went. My other son a was little older but more or less straight off. I have had to do none of that hard work my parents did.The great thing about having a kid to ride with, is that you can jump off stuff without looking like a foolish old man, 'cos, hey, I'm just following my kid !
The bad thing, is that my nine year old rides trails faster than me, gets more air than me, and actually coaches me on my damn technique.
