I normally really enjoy AA Gill in the Times..one of the best writers on the planet. However, today's article was about shooting a baboon for fun. I have hunted and fished in the past and have no particular problem with it when its edible, but simply shooting an animal like this strikes me as being quite nasty. I am not a vegetarian either.

Am I being completely hypocritical?

Curious to know opinions of others.

I'm more surprised at somebody actually reading Gill's column eek complete load of pretentious toss. At least Winner's sometimes funny smile

First time I've read his column, and probably the last.

Not sure how I feel about the baboon, assuming it wasn't all make-believe. What is the death toll from our hospitals recently, 20+ per day?

I don't real see much difference between a baboon and grouse.

So. Did he eat it afterwards?

Shooting st for the giggles I really don't understand. That's plain weird in my book.

Shooting stuff then eating it (provided it's not an endangerd species) - no problem. Mmm. Mmm. Mmm. Tatsy.

Sometimes hunters pay a fee to hunt on tribal land and the tribe also gets to eat bushmeat resulting from the shoot,

Swatting a fly? Trapping a rat? Shooting a baboon?

I can't see why people differentiate, killing and animal is killing an animal. You either do it or you don't?
