The main dealer price I've been quoted is £1500 for N/S and O/S inner front CV joints. I've tried emailing some of the bigger breakers, but I know there aren't many of these 4WD versions about. Can anyone suggest other places to try? Anyone got a scrapper on their drive that I can buy from you?
Cheers.

Try bringing them to a driveline manufacturer, they might be able to fix up what you got, or make new ones.

Thanks for the quick replies.
Martyn D - I'll call Quarry tomorrow.
The End - any suggestions for a driveline (re)manufacturer that you trust?

I've used these before for a propshaft

but there are loads of companies dotted around that make stuff like that for factory, farm and plant machinery

Is that the price for the CV joints alone or does BMW only do complete driveshafts?

I understand that the price is for complete driveshafts. the "repair kit", as they call it, is no longer available.

Buy a complete 525ix for £450:

Ebay a few bits then weigh the rest in, could even make a profit.

I seem to recall the E4 used much of the same AWD hardware as the E30 325ix - might be worth checking US E30 forums like http://www.e30tech.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=39

They are much wider cars though so I'd guess the drive shafts are longer on the E34.

If they did a repair kit, then i think a driveline place should be able to help. What you'll get is a new CV joint for each end, and keep the original spline ended shaft inbetween. Have a look in the TVR forums too, as they keep chewing driveshafts up, so i guess someone will be looking out for cheaper repairs or custom stronger shafts.

Thanks again.

Sniff - well spotted! Provided it doesn't have the same problem as mine, this could be the thing.

phelix and The End - I'll check out your suggestions too.

If you get an Oxford green touring I'd buy the doors off you.

The ebay one went to someone else. However, I am now the proud new owner of the one Sniff found on Autotrader. Fingers crossed that the CVJs are in as good condition as the gaiters suggest.

I delivered the car straight to the garage I like yesterday. Mine will follow later this week. Thanks for your help Sniff! The awesome power of the Pistonheads network!
