I need to get to Westminster sometime next week ( coming from the North )

I am planning on driving close to a tube station, parking and then taking the train into central.

Does anyone know where I can park for free or cheaply and which tube station to go for?

free - no
cheaply - depends on your idea of cheap, but probably not

are you going in the week or weekend? as at the weekend recently they have been closing lots of line for maintance

if it was me, id either drive all the way, and pay tons for parking/CC etc
or go to a train station near you and train it all the way

Go to Stanmore station, just off the M1 - enter the car park for the station. Then take the Jubilee line down to Westminster

Also, does anyone know what the situation for parking in 'Great North Leisure Pk, Chaplin Sq, London, N12 0GL'‎ is ?

There is quite a large car park there, Vue cinema, Comfort Inn is next door aswell.

Am I likely to be clamped/towed/fined if I park there and go to the tube?

More research and there is parking at Edgware station, car park is shared with Sainsburys, not sure on prices though.

Edgware station has one pay car park for tube users separate from the main supermarket/shopping centre one. I believe you have to use the shopping centre and claim the cost of parking back in the main car park to make it free though don't quote me. I usually park outside a mate's house just behind Sainsburys there and take the tube. Depends what time you are going but many of the side streets have free parking except between 10-11 or 11-12 (can't remember which) so that might be the answer.

I'll go with this option biggrin

Free parking and then I can just tube it in.

That is my usual method, just double check the signs on the road you end up parking on as they don't all have the same rules smile

It is not unusual for streets to have different restrictions on one side of the road from the other side, make sure this doesn't catch you out.

Seriously, fannying about at Edgeware Road looking for a residents' spot then paying £7.50 to sit on the tube for an eternity as it rumbles its way from the arse end of nowhere to Westminster...

Or M1, A5 (Edgeware Road) Marble Arch, Park Lane Car Park. No Congestion Charge, £6 for two hours. Bit of a walk the other end through the Royal Parks, but this depends on where you're going. Otherwise pay £8 for CC and use Abingdon (can be full when the MPs are in session) or try Jolly Hotel near Victoria Street.

its about £3.50 for the day I think. nice and easy, straight off the M1 and no traffic.

Swiss cottage has a parking facility www.park-here.co.uk

£10 for the day, you can get there quickly from the a1/m1 and its right by a tube station, and there is no long tube journey into london.
